EXTREME AND ANOTHER EXTREME SHOUT OUT OF APPRECIATION FOR THE ADVOCACY CENTER. FOR THOSE WHO CAN APPRECIATE QUALITY OF SERVICE, HERE IS YOUR PLACE.
Steve Cohn is an outstanding labor lawyer who truly went above and beyond to help me win my case. From day one, he took the time to guide me through every step, patiently answering all my questions with clear, expert advice. His dedication made all the difference. Plus, his staff was incredibly kind, responsive, and professional—always making me feel supported. I couldn’t recommend Steve Cohn highly enough! Best in California.
They hung up on me after I explained what I've been going through and didn't bother giving me any kind of information/help
This attorney mislead me in order to get me to pay him for services. He claimed to have a good relationship with the lawyers in the opposing party, which would help him reach a quick settlement. It took him almost a month to reach out to the opposing party, which he had no clue who to contact. He told me that he would charge me for four hours plus attend the trial setting conference. He explained the trial setting conference takes awhile because it requires a lot of waiting around. Because of this he would not deduct any hours for waiting around. As soon as the trial setting conference was over, he claimed I used all my hours up. The only thing this lawyer did for all the money he charged me was after I had to get the information on who he should contact he wrote a letter and spoke to them once. He claimed he was going to follow up and try to reach a settlement, but that never happened. I raised several concerns reminding him of his promises, and I asked questions in which the majority of the time he was very rude. Some of my questions he never answered. He never picked up the phone once. He said he's going to charge me for every email he has to answer and would send these long emails trying to defend himself. This was a horrible experience. I have dealt with several employment attorneys in the past and this has never been my experience. I filed a complaint with the bar!
This review is misrepresentative and follows our resigning and concerned dealings with this paralegal. We were retained for only four hours following a free initial consult to try to negotiate her Labor Commission loss against a major corporation and to attend her trial-setting conference.

The reviewer completely omits that when she became initially hostile, we offered to resign, issue her a refund, and were threatened if we did not remain on. These are serious omissions in a review claiming misrepresentation for a few hours’ fees.

We timely reached out to her former employer, which had not yet responded to our initial correspondence, as her appeals case was very new and the attorney who successfully represented the company had not replied to us as of the trial setting conference. When asking this client whom she tried the case against, she did not know, but became highly critical of my staff. We identified that attorney through prior work with that company, which has hundreds of attorneys, and had settlement discussions on her two claims, during which they related their own challenged dealings with her and proposed possibly settling both cases together, subject to that attorney’s obtaining authority. This proposal was still pending when I was forced to quit due to continued hostile interactions with the client.

My dealings with the reviewer were very limited as she dealt with 2 of my staff and I kept my interactions with her in writing. She now characterizes my interactions with her positions as “rude”, however, these primarily remained in writing given my concerns. We were not her first attorneys in the matter and her past attorneys also reportedly resigned.

Following the trial setting conference 6 days ago, we provided our written statement for our time which was now exhausted, and I offered to continue, asking for no fees while awaiting the company’s reply. We then received further hostile correspondence from the client and, with this breakdown in the professional relationship, I resigned. Having earlier declined a refund and insisting I continue to complete the court conference, the challenging emails which I received were so compromising that I had no choice but to resign.

We clearly regret this reviewer’s continued misperceptions; however, we do wish her well ahead. Our successful handling of thousands of cases over decades of service in the public good best reflects our clients’ experiences, as well as the fact that they continue to refer their family members, coworkers, congregants, and neighbors for help. This alone is the best measure of our successful practice, for which I am grateful.
Paid 3500 dollars only got one phone interview with Eocc and a rebuttal statement. 2 years being told my case was proceeding as planned. Don't waste your time update First didn't receive anything from Eocc until 2 weeks before the deadline. Everything I received about my case was faxed over or emailed Also my case didn't get worked on for 3 months because his dishonest staff said I didn't pay the retainer fee. Again don't waste your time
We are disappointed to read Mr. McClure’s review, which omits our substantial efforts. We were specifically hired to try to settle his case but not litigate it due to the defense allegations raised against Mr. McClure. Without addressing these challenges, Mr. McClure was initially interviewed by us, his claims evaluated, correspondence was prepared to his employer, and a Complaint was filed before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, a prerequisite in discrimination suits. There was some initial delay with the EEOC due to the Covid backlog, and we next prepared Mr. McClure and participated in his EEOC interview. The company did reply to the EEOC, with the response being sent only to Mr. McClure by the EEOC. Importantly, he did not initially inform us of this. During our follow-up, we learned of these events, evaluated the defenses, and prepared a further rebuttal to the EEOC and directly to the employer, evaluating the company reply and presenting a settlement demand after conferring with the client.

Ultimately, the company declined to negotiate, the EEOC did not find sufficient evidence to sustain the claims and dismissed the charges. All efforts to generate settlement interest with the company failed. Their defenses and risk moving forward were clearly understood as a risk by Mr. McClure. Contrary to the review, we exceeded all attorney time billed, as we continued to attempt to generate settlement even after the company declined an offer.

It is true that no attorney can guarantee a result and, here, there was a substantial factual dispute amid other concerns raised against Mr. McClure. We sincerely tried to assist this individual, but settlement takes two, and the attorney’s inability to guarantee a result on the facts presented was raised in writing at the time we were retained. We have an excellent record of successful prosecutions and mediated settlements, as best reflected in our over 40 top reviews on Avvo.com and our perfect “10” rating. We share Mr. McClure’s disappointment and wish this reviewer the best ahead.
Steve has been handling our legal matters for 8 years. He is outstanding: He is knowledgeable, personable, down to earth, and really effective. A couple of matters arose and he was able to expertly resolve them as well as calm our nerves. He knows his stuff. He knows exactly what he’s doing. He is very good in providing insightful guidance and bringing things to a successful conclusion. He is also friendly and easy to get along with. If you want your matters handled correctly, this is who I would recommend you talk to you. Highly recommended.
We greatly appreciate Jonathan's high praise. We earn client trust one matter at a time and it is greatly rewarding to have such feedback. Thank you, again, Jonathan and we look forward to helping others in need. We are proud of our successful record and such praise is indeed welcome.
We unfortunately must observe that Edward does not state that he received any consultation with the firm at all, while we have no record of Edward as a client or potential client. Edward also does not identify any requested services, nor the staff that he had contacted, if any, or if he only had on-line contact. While we cannot accept all cases that are presented, here it may be that his claims were not recognized as something we agreed to pursue, or are outside of our scope. This does not detract from our excellent record of client successes, as best reflected in the very many published reviews on our website, employmentadvocacy.com, which we invite consumers to review.

We hope Edward was able to locate a firm to accept his matter and we wish him success ahead. My name is Jennifer. I contacted Steven because of an employee who tried to defame our business. This employee’s plan was to steel our current customers and our employees by spreading vicious lies. He basically wanted to take over our hard earned business of 20 plus years. The day I called for a lawyer, Steven Cohn came to the rescue. I was in dire need of help. It seemed my entire establishment was to go up in smoke because of this hoodlum kid who partnered up with someone else to take us down for their own gain. Steven was attentive, heard me panic and at once, was able to make me feel at ease with his plan of action. Immediately, Steven helped by putting in place the right documentation to stop these hoodlums right in their tracks. Success! Steven was able to get these guys to back off and with the right approach, he won back our company’s hard earned reputation. I recommend Steven Cohn to anyone who is in a bind or in need of legal help. Steven has the knowledge and know how to solve specific individualized problems. He is very well versed. Know you are in excellent- professional hands. Thank you again Steven Cohn!
Thanks for the updating
I just read Mary’s review, and she is completely wrong. Mr. Cohn has helped me through numerous employment issues over the years, as well as a number of my colleagues. All of us have had a consummate professional!!! Not only is he gracious and very caring, but he also gets outstanding results. Mr. Cohn also received a state bar pro bono award for free legal services in the public good. The firm's website has scores of reviews which demonstrate that Mary is clearly misintrepreting her brief call. In addition, it looks like she was never a client. How unfortunate!
Called this place today but it was too early. So I figured I'd call back later in the day. I then received a call from a blocked number, it ended up being Steven. He then began to make assumptions based on my phone number, asking me questions. I was very skeptical because 1. it was a blocked number 2. I did not give any information to them when I called the first time(I hung up because it was too early) Overall, Steven is rude. I had one phone call interaction with him and I could only imagine how much awful he is in person. Lack of professionalism for someone who has been practicing for so many years. He doesn't even know how to treat potential clients over the phone. Instead of being rude and stating "This isn't going to work out for me." No interpersonal skills whatsoever.
Mary, we are so disappointed to learn of how you perceived us, and alarmed that you would write a review where you were not a client, received no services, had not met with our attorneys, and drew your conclusions apparently based solely on one early morning very brief return call where you were informed that we did not feel that the engagement was "going to work", with your interpreting this to have been "rude".

Conversely, we are advised by our intake personnel on the call that you were reluctant to identify the city or state where you worked, (noting your out of state phone number and the Bay Area location we serve), asking why we need to know, and then your challenging why the firm's prompt return call was on a blocked number, while you acknowledge that you were calling before we opened. Perhaps you yourself promptly came off as unreasonably evasive, indirect and accusatory, leading our staff to attempt to graciously, but firmly, conclude the call.

Our senior attorney is indeed highly experienced and typically extremely well received, with our office having promptly concluded that your level of suspicion and skepticism, where we were returning a courtesy call off our website, leaving virtually no case information, was unlikely to be productive for either party, so you were politely informed of this, and it was suggested that you try other counsel.

We certainly wish to apologize that you feel you were not given a greater opportunity to state your concerns, nor to receive a reasonable level of interaction with our office, however, your report is clearly not consistent with the thousands of clients who have actually worked with our firm and who attest to their experiences with favorable reviews on our website. We do regret the treatment you report and remain hopeful that you will be able to find successful representation in the near future. Our best wishes to you.
We unfortunately have no record of such a client having consulted with us, nor any file opened for this individual. Unfortunately, he also does not identify which attorney in the firm he raises concerns over, nor the substance of those concerns, or even if he was an opposing party against one of our actual clients.

Being on the front line of employment disputes, we often receive calls from individuals who do not present actionable claims, resulting in us promptly so advising and concluding the call without any attorney retention nor payment. Whether Mr. Garcia falls into this category remains unknown.

Give us a call and you will promptly find direct, helpful and professional advice, which is the key to having built and remained in one of the Valley's succesful employment law practices. We are here to help.
I would like to start with “” Cohn is awesome. “” It is hard to find a defense attorney for an accident case when you are held guilty. I searched online, found multiple lawyers, but all refused to take my case. Cohn was awesome from the first moment I talked to him. Cohn called me back the same day, when I left a note on his social site. Very responsive, very positive about my case. I had a sigh of relief that there is someone at least to talk to about my situation. I and my wife went to his office the following day, Cohn said in the first meeting that my case was really weak and he would do his best but there were many ways that the plaintiff attorney can cause harm to me. Our plaintiff attorney was also very strong and very experienced in car accident cases, that he has been doing for decades. The first meeting was demotivating for me. But over the time Cohn built a plan and various arguments and situations that supported be and that could bring me out of the situation. He had to fight my insurance company, who were not providing me proper coverage, he had things in place to go to the builder whose negligence was one of the factors influencing the accident. All this worked and made my case really strong and finally the plaintiff attorney did not file a lawsuit against me. This was a journey of 18 months, and there were ups and downs, but Cohn was great throughout this journey. Cohn has extensive experience working with insurance firms, working in insurance firms has a good connect with the lawyer community, he is a lot respected and he taking your case itself is half won for you. The best part of the engagement was, Cohn went much beyond what we had signed up at the start. He went beyond what we had agreed. Because over the time we had built a relationship, he felt for us and understood what challenges in life we were going through. We had just come from India, we were settling down, I had my son starting this college very soon, I had issues with my job. But Cohn was still there, he is like a direct blessing from God. I never had to follow up, he was always on the job, and every time I would call, he had updates for me, and many times he would just call me with an update. I was out of the situation, I got a letter of closure from the plaintiff. I live more confidently and happily now. I owe a lot of this to Cohn. And I would like to end with “” He is awesome. “” I wish him all the success and happiness in his life and family. BTW, I had a wonderful experience at his office, nice office, the staff is very professional, very responsive. I used to get responses the same day and would be in meeting or call with Cohn, as soon as he was available.
Mr. Cohn is an exceptional attorney. He is extremely knowledgeable and professional. Mr. Cohn was pleasant to work with on my matter and I truly felt that the best hands were on deck. His communication skills can't be beat. He is very direct and to the point. The results of the matter far exceeded my expectations. I had complete trust in Mr. Cohn because I felt that he really was looking out for my best interest. He has extensive experience and his rates are very reasonable. His practice is high caliber and well established. I would highly recommend working with Mr. Cohn if the need presents itself. You will not be disappointed!
Me Cohn was very professional and helpful. He was patient and explaining the process as it went along. He always answered all of my questions. I did not know a lot about the laws but he was so knowledgeable that he made it easy for me to understand. I recommend him .
