Disappointed with work on a visitation issue. Promised to file within a week. Many delays - filed in 2021. We still do not have final papers. UPDATE: Evidently, there were circumstances beyond their control involved and they are trying to resolve this issue so I have edited my review (can't figure out how to remove). If they can get it resolved, I'll update again. **UPDATE Aug 2025 - still no final papers. Plan to file another complain with the Georgia State Bar.

I strongly advise against hiring this attorney as they proved to be a complete waste of time and money. Despite paying a substantial amount to secure their services, they displayed a shocking lack of awareness regarding my case and consistently failed to respond to my calls and emails, even during critical periods. I ended up having to handle everything myself, putting in all the effort while they were completely absent. This attorney makes empty promises and only pretends to be on your side until they have drained your finances, at least 10k in my case, and then conveniently disappear, leaving your case in ruins. Please do not jeopardize your family's funds by entrusting them with your legal matters. To put it bluntly - they provided zero support whatsoever.

I have been using John Barrett for over 20 years now and I will only use this firm! Donna his paralegal is absolutely amazing! They both go above and beyond for their clients!! If you want a firm/attorney that cares and that will work hard for you then use Barrett Legal, LLC! I have been so pleased on many cases John has worked on of mine. He has never let me down! Here recently he helped my fiance with a last minute situation and we were truly pleased with the outcome! Thanks John and Donna for everything!!

I hired Mr. Barrett and I was NOT happy with his service. He took my bankruptcy case and my money because he thought it was a EASY case and he wouldn't have to do much work. But once the case got complex he didn't want to complete the job. He didnt do anything like legally advise me what was the right route to take for my situation. He never returned phone calls or emails and this is not how you keep clients. Furthermore, Mr. Barrett didn't not help me resolve the next steps in the case nor did he have the decency to call me-very unprofessional! He had his secretary contact me to refer me to another attorney so I would have to pay more money on a job I paid him to do. He also sent me a letter in the mail and tried to withdraw himself from my case without discussing my next steps. I feel Mr. Barrett owes me the remaining balance minus the bankruptcy filing fee for the job he didn't complete. I did email him just days ago for this request and he has yet to respond.

Hired on another lawyers recommendation. They collected a retainer within 15minutes. Made sure to get money immediately and a year later we have not even filed anything. Requested a ledger for billing since nothing has been done, ever. No response. No one has moved forward with our case at all. We have had to get another lawyer involed. This place basically pocketed our money for adoption and disappeared. To this day we still have been represented or filed anything and are now having to file with another lawyer just to deal with this lawyer. Crazy experience. So disappointed. This was an adoption case and they just completely left this child and our whole family flapping in the wind. I've never seen anything like it.

I used Barrett for my divorce case. Women, don't make the same mistake. Marietta Square is part of the, "Good Old Boy" network and you are not one of them. Get a woman attorney from Atlanta, Alpharetta someone that is not around Marietta Square or the surrounding ding towns. If you even have the slightest feeling your attorney is doing you wrong, fire them and get different one.

Barrett Legal Response to: Simone Godwin Ms. Godwin is the opposing party in a contested divorce matter and not an uncontested matter as stated in her review. Unfortunately, Ms. Godwin has not been happy that Attorney John Barrett was protecting his client from her harassing and unwelcome conduct. Further, Ms. Godwin terminated her own attorney and made similar statements as that of Mr. Barrett. It is apparent that Ms. Godwin does not like it when she cannot bully or manipulate people around her. If you are looking for excellent representation and are in a situation similar to this, please do not hesitate to contact Barrett Legal.

Considering hiring an attorney can carry so many emotions. However, after my initial conversation with Donna, I was encouraged that there was hope for a new beginning ahead. Both John and Donna provide detailed explanations of what to expect throughout the process and were diligent and timely in their preparation. I am very thankful to have had their expertise walk me through a very challenging time in my life.

They have gotten me exactly what I wanted each of the 2 times I’ve had a custody battle. They have achieved the unreachable when it comes to the final outcome. I wish that I had John and Donna during my initial divorce proceedings. I believe that they would have ensured a much fairer division of assets with my ex. They are very professional and thorough in their review of the material evidence and definitely had my best interest in mind representing me.

Standing next to John, before the judge, in that courtroom, I honest to God felt like he wanted me to go home as bad as I wanted to go home, and that he was willing to say, or do whatever it took to make that happen! I've NEVER had an attorney make me feel that way in my entire life. I don't have any idea what type of divorce attorney he is, but I know emphatically that he is an AWESOME defense attorney! I ended up groing to jail that day, but it was about 95% less time than the District Attorney asked for!

I had a great experience with this law firm. Mr. Barrett is knowledgeable and easy to communicate with. He is kind and does not come off superior. Ms. Donna is great support and really shows that she cares about your case. I had to call her several times in a panic/breakdown and she was there to handle the situation. I would recommend Barrett Law to anyone in need of a divorce lawyer!
