Lorraine Silverman represented me during my divorce. She and her team were always available when I had questions or concerns. She was thorough in helping me to understand all of the legalities surrounding my situation. Lorraine is fierce and holds nothing back, when fighting for her clients! The firms paralegals are top notch! Naomi Romano is dedicated and incredible to work with!

Kathleen (Casey) Copps DiPaola represented me while I was kinship fostering and then adopted my niece and nephew. I truly felt like she took my concerns seriously and went to bat for me with DSS, pushing where necessary and yet, keeping on good terms with the attorney for the county and the law guardian. She was good with communication and honest about my chances of winning litigated guardianship. She also was my attorney in creating my will and a trust fund for my niece and nephew. I truly felt like she had my back. I would highly recommend her.

Words cannot fully capture the gratitude we feel for Copps DiPaola Silverman, PLLC. From the very beginning of our adoption journey, they treated us with compassion, respect, and unwavering dedication. Adoption is such an emotional road—filled with hope, fear, and faith—and their team walked beside us through every twist and turn with patience and genuine care. In September 2025, our daughter’s adoption was finalized, and in that moment our lives changed forever. We became a complete family, and it would not have been possible without their guidance and advocacy. They didn’t just handle the legal process; they gave us peace of mind, comfort during the waiting, and the reassurance that everything would work out as it was meant to. If you are someone searching for an adoption attorney, please know that you don’t have to walk this road alone. This firm will not only fight for your family, but they will also celebrate with you when your dream becomes reality. We will forever carry gratitude in our hearts for Copps DiPaola Silverman, PLLC—because of them, our daughter is home, and our family is whole💗💗

Lawyers are often lambasted for being non-responsive. Not this team. Lawyers are often stereotyped as being experts in billing and billing alone. Not this team. Copps DiPaola Silverman was/is responsive, up-front about cost, and really went to bat for me. I required representation for a family-related matter, and the outcome was even better than what I hoped for. Everything down to the word and penny was explained thoroughly. Kayla was my attorney and she was excellent. Professional but down to earth. Strongly recommended.

Response from owner

Lawyers are often accused of being elusive—hard to reach, harder to trust, and hardest of all to understand when the stakes are personal. But at Copps DiPaola Silverman, we believe in flipping that script. We show up, we break things down, and we never forget that behind every case is a real person who deserves clarity, confidence, and results.

Your words mean the world to us. Kayla is the kind of attorney who blends precision with heart—professional, grounded, and ready to go the distance. We’re so glad you felt that.

Thank you for trusting us with something so important—and for sharing your experience. We’ll keep raising the bar.

With appreciation,
The Dream Team at Copps DiPaola Silverman, PLLC

Had set up an appointment for a custody case a few years ago. Paid a 300 consult fee and went to my appointment. Was told after that first appointment that I could not be taken as a client due to a conflict of interest as the attorney had represented my ex previously. When asked why it wasn’t flagged before the initial consult and if I could be refunded my 300 I was told that it was an oversight and no I would not receive a refund. I was told in a very rude and condescending way that there was a value to my consult and there was nothing I could do to receive a refund. I was out 300 dollars and lost valuable time. Zero stars!!

Thank you for your feedback. While we are unable to comment publicly on any specific matter due to our ethical obligations and our deep respect for client confidentiality, we do want to provide general information for the benefit of those considering our services.

Our firm follows strict protocols to check for potential conflicts before scheduling consultations. This process includes collecting intake information and running names through our internal system. Occasionally, despite these efforts, a conflict may not become apparent until or after the initial meeting. When that happens, we are ethically required to decline or withdraw from representation.

We understand how disappointing and frustrating this can be, and we regret any inconvenience caused. While our consultation fees reflect the time and legal insight provided during the appointment, we are always working to improve our processes and client experience. We appreciate the opportunity to learn from feedback and remain committed to serving our community with integrity and care.

— Copps DiPaola Silverman, PLLC

Jessica Phillips was very helpful in advising me on the potential implications of commingling assets after marriage. She helped me understand some important differences between separate and marital property, and ways to try to protect pre-marital assets moving forward in the event of a divorce. I always have a great experience working with Jessica and would highly recommend her!

Mr. J. Williams represented me in family court doing a kin gap guardianship. I must say that I had absolutely zero stress because Joe handled everything. The staff at the firm were excellent anytime I sent an email or a call. They promptly got back in touch with me. Would definitely recommend them.

Joseph Williams Esq. was our attorney for a very difficult time in our lives, he was very professional and preparing for our case, explaining all details and gave us hope, so pleased with results my husband and I would highly recommend and have done so. Also let us know there were other services provided by their can provide and let us know he would be there for us again if needed.

As an attorney myself, there is no one I would recommend more than Lorraine SIlverman and her colleagues. Her communication, preparedness, and zealous advocacy got me through one of the most difficult times of my life. I have, and will continue, to refer anyone who is in need of the services this firm provides to CDS Law Firm!!!

Response from owner

They say it takes one to know one—and when a fellow attorney sees your work and says, “That’s the person I trust,” it hits differently. Because we know what it takes behind the scenes: the preparation, the advocacy, the late-night case law deep-dives—and the unshakable belief that our clients deserve more than just representation. They deserve a lifeline.

To be the one you turned to during a deeply personal moment—and now, the one you refer others to—that means everything.

Thank you for your trust, your kind words, and your continued vote of confidence. In law and in life, we rise by lifting others—and we’re so grateful to have stood beside you.

With admiration,
Lorraine & the CDS Family Law Dream Team

Spoke to the receptionist over 2 weeks ago, she was very nice and transferred me to a colleague's voicemail. I never received a return phone call, therefore will be going elsewhere for services!

Response from owner

I cannot say enough good things about Copps DiPaola Silverman LLC. I was treated with kindness and respect with all of the staff there that I came into contact with. I hired Lorraine Silverman to handle a custody matter after the attorney I had been working with at another firm dismissed some of my concerns. I am SO glad I switched! Lorraine is PHENOMENAL. I know she is extremely busy, however she made it feel like my case was her #1 priority with the time and attention to detail she spent. She was responsive, thorough, compassionate, and didn't make me feel silly for asking questions. She really takes the time to listen and make sure you are heard. And seeing her in the court room....watch out! She is fierce in all the wonderful ways you would want from your attorney. During my time working with Lorraine, I had a support issue come up so I started working with Kayla Leder who handles that area of law. Kayla was also PHENOMENAL! Her attention to detail was superb, she was kind, and she was also looking out for my best interests. At one point she explained one of the options I had, but she was honest about the fact that would be the more expensive route. I appreciated that she was up front about that. In the end, both Lorraine and Kayla helped get me to where I wanted to be with my custody and support orders. I would HIGHLY recommend this firm!

Thank you very much for the wonderful review. We work very hard to make sure that our clients are heard, their goals are met, and they are protected.

Excellent service. Kathleen (Casey) did our estate planning documents. Efficient, professional, easy process and quick turn around time. Friendly staff and great office environment.

Response from owner

Thank you very much for your feedback, Ashlee! We understand that many of our clients are coming to us under difficult circumstances and at the worst (rather than the best) of time, so we work hard to help them through the process as quickly and efficiently as possible.

I was disappointed in my services with this law office. I hired them to create a prenup. My fiance had to hire one also, as they did not offer mediation services. They lawyer I worked with (Silverman) simply failed to understand what I was requesting for a prenup. My fiance's lawyer had to suggest rewrites several times as my lawyer kept trying to update the prenup, but then she kept wording the document in a more convoluted way. In the end, I was charged for those rewrites, even though they were a result of her failure to understand my requests. I won't go into detail, but they were pretty simple requests! Lesson learned, more expensive does not mean better when it comes to lawyers.

Response from owner

As we hope those interested in our legal services understand, we are not able to comment (nor would we ever comment) on a former client’s case publicly. It is protected by our ethical rules and we value our clients’ privacy above all else.
With that said, we would like to discuss prenuptial agreements generally. Prenuptial Agreements are an excellent opportunity to establish how you would like your assets and debts divided in the event of a separation or divorce in the future, but through the negotiation process, they also help to determine how well you and your future spouse communicate with each other regarding financial and other critically important matters. The inability to share financial documents, to discuss important financial issues prior to marriage, or to actually enter into the final agreement after setting out to do so should raise some questions for both future spouses. With prenuptial agreements, both parties should have separate legal representation so their questions can be answered and so their rights can be protected. This is not only best practice, but providing representation to both parties is a potential ethical issue called a conflict of interest. Some mediators might negotiate a prenuptial agreement, but the better mediators will recommend that both parties seek independent legal advice/assistance during the negotiation of the contract and prior to execution of the Agreement for this reason. Copps DiPaola Silverman, PLLC does not act as mediators for Prenuptial Agreements (for the reasons explained above). Please see our website for the services that we do offer.
I am deeply disappointed in how poorly my surrogacy journey was handled, so I would not recommend Kathleen.

I called Copps DiPaola Silverman PLLC for consultation for divorce and the lady who answered took my detailed information said she was “running a system check” and would call me back. She never called back. If you don’t want to be discriminated against don’t choose this law firm. Fortunately another albany area law firm will receive my funds for service.

Response from owner

We would like to take a minute to explain the “conflict check” process. When individuals call our office seeking representation, we are required to run a conflict check of our current and former clients to ensure that there would not be a “conflict of interest” if one of the attorneys in our office were to speak to or meet with the potential new client. Depending on the nature of the call and the information available at that time, our paralegals may be able to do this relatively quickly, however, they may need to return the call to obtain additional information (either for the conflict check or to determine attorney availability for matter). While we would like to assist everyone, our attorneys receive many referrals, and as a result, we are not able to assist everyone who reaches out to our office. When we are not able to assist potential new client, our paralegals make every effort to provide referrals to other offices.

Excellent service! Worked with mainly with Shannon and Kathleen (Casey) and they took our adoption case seriously since day one. They explained everything up front of what was needed for the process to be quicker and smooth. I will definitely go back if needed and definitely recommend Copps DiPaola Silverman.
