They handled my case and I am very satisfied with their work. They are a very professional firm and very humane with migrants.

Response from owner

While I appreciate this wonderful review, I believe it is intended for a different law firm.

There are reviews that do not have actual words to them. Read the ones that do. Do NOT use this lawyer if you expect results. Phone calls will not be answered. He does not have a paralegal or even an assistant that we know of, although he charges for one, and will gladly take your $5,000. You will not have any help navigating your legal options. Return your client's phone calls, always.

Sometimes life throws some unexpected situations in your lap and you need someone who can help! I am beyond blessed to have been able to use Mr. Craig's help and knowledge! Please don't let the reviews on here discourage you! This man was a genuine " Stress eater" Thanks again!

I have no client by this name or any name similar to this. They may have confused my law firm with another similarly-named firm, which has happened before.

This lawyer did a friend of mine very wrong in a huge case and won’t admit fault. He had to make an insurance claim to wiggle his way out of his obligations to his client. If he does you wrong make sure you contact lawyers mutual insurance and be prepared to fight with them too, because they’re also lawyers. Sam will no doubt have a smart retort to this review but the fact is a lawyer should fight for you, not for his mistakes.

Response from owner

I don't know who Mr. Howard is, nor do I know who his friend is, and have no idea what case he is talking about. I haven't had anyone accuse me of any problems, so haven't had to admit or deny fault, and I have not made, nor had reason to make, any malpractice insurance claims.
I wonder if Mr. Howard has reviewed the wrong attorney.

I went to Sam Craig for representation for an unemployment hearing. I was fortunate to win my case despite Mr. Craig. He originally wanted me to pay him more than 3 times what my case actually cost. When I did the math against his hourly billable rate I told him that was unreasonable and we agreed to a lesser amount which I thought was fair. He blatantly went against my expressed wishes and interviewed my witnesses over the phone (even thought they had given written sworn statements ahead of time) and billed me for those hours. After I discussed this with him and told him again, under no terms was he to call my witnesses, he actually called them AGAIN. He also actually refused to let one of my witnesses even testify during the hearing after he had billed me for talking to her and she was on standby to testify and her testimony corroborated mine. Additionally, my hearing was postponed part of the way through due to inclement weather and even though I had almost 2 hours credit in my account with Mr. Craig he threatened that he would not attend the second portion of my hearing if I did not first send him more money ahead of time. I talked to several other attys who said that even if you OWE them money they are not allowed to not show, much less when you have a credit balance. Considering the fact that I had already retained Mr. Craig for my hearing, I was not allowed to go and hire another atty in his place. I basically consider what he did blackmail. Apparently he needed money worse than an unemployed single mother of 3. In the end, I was refunded my credit balance but I was billed for hours that he spent on the phone that I did NOT agree to and specifically told him not to make those calls. I do not believe he is there to help people but rather to milk it for every penny he can.

While this review contains a number of errors and falsehoods, I limit my response to two areas: (1) This former client would almost certainly have lost her case without my assistance; and (2) I behaved professionally in all aspects of my dealings with, and representation of, this client.

_____1. Without my assistance, this client would very likely have lost her appeal of the denial of her unemployment benefits. When she came to me, she had already filed an initial response with an argument that would almost certainly have failed, as it did not directly address the appellate issue. With my legal counsel, we changed course and presented the appeal in a manner that led the hearing officer to rule in my client's favor.

_____2. I acted professionally with this client and her case, including communications with witnesses and in my business dealings with this client.
(a) Because we significantly changed the appeal response, I had to prepare the witnesses for the hearing. To do so, I had to contact them prior to their testimony.
(b) I charged this client by the hour for this matter. We agreed that she would place money in my trust account to cover estimated expenses, and that she would supplement those funds as necessary. When estimated expenses exceeded the amount remaining in my trust account, I required her to supplement those funds, as agreed. This is standard practice. After her appeal was granted, I actually reduced the hours I could have charged her, which allowed me to return a larger balance from the trust account.

_____This client filed these same allegations in a grievance to the State Bar. All allegations of her grievance were dismissed. The Bar's final response stated that “there was not probable cause to believe that you violated the Rules of Professional Conduct....” Probable Cause is defined as facts which would induce a reasonably intelligent and prudent person to believe that a claim existed, so this client's claims failed to meet even that low standard.

_____I have a paper taped on my desk directly in front of me with a question, and my response. The question is “Why do you do what you do?” My response to that question is “I like to help people.” I helped this client for a reasonable fee, but she refuses to understand or is incapable of understanding that.
