I will never stop praising God for leading me to Dollar, Burns, Becker & Hershewe! I was in communication mainly with Joshua and he was absolutely incredible. He allowed me to ask any and all questions that I had and his response time was quick! This was good for me because cases can take time and a toll mentally, and he took it upon himself to help ease my anxiety whenever I needed. Every meeting that I had with Joshua and the team I could just tell that they actually cared about what they’re doing and I didn’t feel like just a client. I can honestly say that I was treated like family and they put a lot of hard work into my case. I reached out to this firm seeking help with a very serious civil matter involving abuse and exploitation I experienced as a minor and was contacted by and attorney Jill Kanatzar. Unfortunately, I did not feel heard or supported. I was told that since law enforcement did not pursue charges, there was nothing she could do, and that she was not in the business of “filing lawsuits just to file lawsuits.” While I understand not every attorney will take every case, the way this was communicated felt dismissive and discouraging. Survivors deserve attorneys who listen with compassion and understand that the standards for civil cases are different than criminal ones. For someone with 20 years of experience in sexual abuse cases, she sure isn’t very trauma-informed, nor seems like she’s in it for the business of helping victims or being on the right side of justice.
