Without directly naming the person, I would just like to caution any potential future clients to ask lots of questions before paying any retainers to the legal team. My lawyer not only cost me thousands of dollars but also lost my case due to lack of information and initiative. I was lied to, told that my custody hearing would consist of just myself, my ex and both lawyers, and to not bring witnesses. I had to fly from AZ for this event as it was, and when I arrived the day prior to the hearing, I was told to only focus on the information that she had deemed important, thus leaving out crucial points that worked to my favor, including the father's multiple DUI and drug charges, as well as the domestic abuse evidence. On the day of the hearing, I walked into the court room and was met with not only my ex, but an additional 8 witnesses and was blindsided. My lawyer did nothing to remedy this situation, did not say a word when I pointed out the lies that were being told on the stand, and wouldn't listen to my desire to postpone the hearing due to having 10 people against me, and no one to back up my side of things. This resulted in me losing custody after being a single mom for 4 1/2 years, to the father that never wanted to spend more than a day alone with his child, and lied to impress the judge and make me look unstable. Further from that, she introduced the idea of me paying them child support after the father and I had agreed to create a joint savings fund for the child separate from the court rulings. Nearly 2 years later I'm still fighting and having to deal with the father not following the court appointed parenting plan, and not adequately caring for the child. Be careful who you trust with your legal action.
