Only one regret but let me explain. I am not an attorney, yet dispute resolution is what I do. I’m embarrassed to say even after thousands of negotiations I had to seek legal counsel to resolve an issue with a local contractor. Mr. Mike Hupf did an extraordinary job walking me through the process of negotiating in the legal system opposed to a boardroom. Mr. Hupf is measured, strategic, attentive, and conscientious. He always had my best interest in mind and did a phenomenal job setting expectations while staying open to discussion. I can confidently say the outcome could not have been better. Thank you so much for making a frustrating and tedious process almost pleasant. My only regret, it’s been eight months and I should have had the courtesy to write this sooner. In my defense still had to get this done after we dealt with those clowns.

My experience with Marc Patoile started badly and only got worse. Hiring him was one of the BIGGEST MISTAKES OF MY ENTIRE LIFE. I hired Marc Patoile, and almost immediately noticed serious billing issues. I was repeatedly billed for TWO attorneys, something I never consented to, never approved, and was never clearly explained to me. This set the tone for what looking back felt to me like it nearly ruined my life and my son’s life. During the initial consultation, I made one thing unmistakably clear. THE SAFETY AND WELLBEING OF MY CHILD was my only priority. I came prepared with months of documented evidence involving serious concerns about the father of my child, including substance and alcohol abuse and domestic violence. Instead of focusing on my child’s safety, Marc Patoile spent 1.5 HOURS of my PAID consultation time talking about hypothetical financial splits. I repeatedly told him I DID NOT CARE ABOUT FINANCIALS. I would have given up every dollar I had to protect my child. He ignored this entirely. During that same consult, Marc Patoile told me that he knew the magistrate assigned to my case, Monica Gomez, and mentioned a personal connection, including having attended her wedding. At the time, I interpreted this as experience and influence, and I will admit that I fell for it. Looking back, it felt to me inappropriate and misleading, especially given what followed. During the consult, he also promised specific actions. One of those promises was that he would seek a Soberlink order. He never did. No motion. No follow-through. No explanation. NOTHING. Before temporary orders even occurred, Marc Patoile also filed my child’s name change request INCORRECTLY. It was filed in a different motion, not on its own. We were never able to get it fixed, and this was only fully realized after the divorce was finalized. That mistake has caused ongoing issues to this day, and it felt to me like something that never should have happened in the first place. He made broad assurances about how he would handle my case. NONE OF IT HAPPENED. Not one meaningful action followed those promises. When we reached temporary orders, the situation became terrifying. Marc Patoile showed up having submitted NOT A SINGLE THING. No filings. No preparation. No strategy. Nothing. At one of the most critical moments of my life, it felt to me like he was completely unprepared and indifferent. Instead of advocating for my child, I felt pressured into settling, despite the evidence I had and despite my repeated pleas for proper representation. I felt gaslit, dismissed, and railroaded while already traumatized and vulnerable. Communication throughout the representation was AWFUL. I was repeatedly unable to schedule calls. Marc Patoile was constantly out of the office or on vacation. When I needed urgent guidance, I got silence followed by overbilling. Since then, I have been active in multiple support and legal discussion groups, and I have personally connected with many women who described the same experience with Marc Patoile. Several told me they were about to put a retainer down and were relieved they did not after hearing what I went through. The pattern was disturbingly consistent. After changing attorneys, the contrast was immediate. My new attorney successfully obtained a Temporary Protection Order, secured hair follicle drug testing, and ultimately obtained a PERMANENT PROTECTION ORDER FOR LIFE. I also later won sole decision-making, relocation to Germany, and essentially everything I originally asked for. FUN FACT: Marc Patoile attempted to place a lien on my house over a disputed final bill. When this issue went before a judge, his request was DENIED. In court, he relied on a 10 to 20 year old legal reference that was no longer applicable, and the lien was not granted. It felt to me like the judge made it clear that laws cannot simply be invented. 😂😂😂 Watching that unfold was telling. It felt to me like he could not even effectively advocate for himself in court.

Unresponsive and arrogant.

I would not recommend Folkestad Fazekas based on my experience. Communication was consistently poor from the start. It was extremely difficult to get a hold of anyone, and I was regularly told the attorneys were out of the office or on vacation. There was no sense of urgency or initiative in keeping me updated on my own case—at one point, I was offered an appointment more than a week later just to receive a basic update, which was ultimately done via email and I was charged hundreds for a basic one-line sentence update. I was also charged for the initial consultation call without being told there would be a fee. Every other firm I spoke with clearly informed me upfront whether consultations were free or paid, but that transparency was missing here. When I did ask questions about my case or billing, the responses were curt and unhelpful. I was charged thousands of dollars for brief email communication, and I paid $5,000 simply for a response to a motion—yet the motion they filed still did not include everything I specifically asked for and I provided a completed motion to being the case. So, even doing work yourself will not save you any money with this firm. The billing truly looks like price gouging. I have worked with multiple attorneys in the past, including divorce lawyers, and this was by far the most overpriced and lowest-quality legal experience I’ve ever had. What made the contrast even clearer was that several other attorney offices—who were not even representing me—were far more responsive, communicative, and professional than the firm I was actively paying. Overall, I left this experience feeling frustrated, unsupported, and taken advantage of. I had to drop this firm as my attorney and move into a new attorney. I hope sharing my experience helps others make a more informed decision before choosing this firm.

I've had the blessing, opportunity and pleasure of working my Mrs. Yens for 3 misdemeanors sourced from domestic violence charges. She was the second defense attorney employed and I wish I had utilized her first. Still to say, she was essential in having all my charges acquitted and bringing the truth to the surface for the jury to see. Every penny put towards your working with this firm is well spent and an investment for your future. They are highly communicative, quick and accurate with paperwork and make you feel valued on every level.
