Great attorney, helped me with my ssd after being turned down for so long. Positive vibes, and just overall great experience with him. Will love to see him again out and about.

I discovered John through the Oregon State Bar and hired him as my probate attorney in 2024. I had never dealt with an attorney prior to my mother's death and I'm thankful my experience was relatively smooth. John was kind and patient as I navigated the probate process and the closing of my mother's estate, and I felt like he was really looking out for me. If the worst were to happen I would hire John again.

Absolutely fantastic. 10/10 would recommend. Haapalw LLC took my case and with minimal effort from myself due to my limitations, did all the necessary leg work and delivered a win for my family and myself. A huge shout out to John and April, thank you so much!

Response from owner

So happy for you Kirk! Thanks for the trust! Thanks for the review.

I want to start this by saying a huge thank you to John and April. John is a top notch attorney, I seriously could not have asked for a better person to help me through this process. I came to John after getting denied for disability twice. He helped prepare me to go in front of a judge and plea my case. He was a key factor in me winning my case. John is extremely knowledgeable and kind. I love that when I called the office, most of the time John would answer the phone himself. Both April and John answered all of my questions and helped me navigate this process. If you are needing an attorney, John is the man for the job. Once again, THANK YOU!! -Caroline

It is with great appreciation that I write this. John and April 💕 helped me get social security disability after years of trying with well known attorneys that claim they can help. Well they can't. John took me from the beginning to the end. God bless them both Outstanding service. They deserve every penny they earned. Don't waste your time on others. Forever in their debt. Janice Titus

So this is actually difficult to review for me because I never want to just talk about the negatives, however I feel obligated as I was referred to him by someone else too. I had a short email interaction. Two stars because he actually replied, only one star for the replies and interaction. According to my wife, the first response was an instant red flag but we gave the benefit of the doubt. *No professional written etiquette, only one liners, yes time is money but come on, ignoring everything I asked and just dropping a link on eligibility? My initial contact email sugessted that we were past that, exept maybe one thing I missed that I then clarified. *Didn't answer any of my questions or even acknowledged that I asked them (the very questions I needed an attorney for, navigating). I felt like he gave me misinformation when it was written cleary. Fact: I cited it to him, it was pretty clear in the 1996 law and the requirements for non-citizens. I even explained to him what the "first 5 years after becoming a legal permanent resident" means and why that is, I actually couldn't believe I had to do that as clear as the wording is and I expected him to just know that. He left me feeling like I wasn't worth it or simply didn't want to help because I was a legal resident and I *feel* like he tried to misinterpret the rules to get rid of me. Was brushed off to "see an immigration expert" when this wasn't even an immigration issue. A SSI attorney of 19 years + should have known those nuances in the law. But I understand, you are capped at 25% of the backpay so why would you want to help someone get approved right away? But making me feel like I wasn't eligible when my wife and I meet the requirements is not okay, it was simply about navigating the process. For reference the backstory, neither was I born yesterday nor did I wake up yesterday and thought "oh lets do SSI" and get a handout, I was let down for 2 years by attorneys, the state, doj, health insurance, I even wrote a letter to the darn white house asking where to report a landlord that breaks the law (thats what the causation is, that pushed me into looking into SSI. A failed legal system). You name it, I reached out to over 30 attorneys to get someone to represent me in a slip and fall and only 3!!! I actually spoke to "yeah you have a case but you aren't enough of a cash cow for us so no justice for you, in lawyer talk). Out of the 3, only one looked at my case correctly and gave me a sophisticated coherent view. Again, I didn't just wake up yesterday on a whim deciding I want a handout, I have a legitimate need because the system that was supposed to protect me, failed me. This is where I arrived now and needed help navigating SSI. During those years I have done nothing but reseach on tenant law, recently then disability law and what not, I had very specific questions that I felt like only a qualified attorney could interpret and answer. Haapalaw LLC was not that attorney. I came out of this kinda flabbergasted, feeling like this was just a waste of time. I never asked for a free consultation or anything, to get my questions actually answered, I would have paid. Unfortunately, it didn't even get to that. I decided to not continue the "conversation" and spent the energy, it was just strange, I didn't even feel like I talked to someone with a law degree. Very, very strange feeling. So moving on, I simply can't recommend and I am just continuing to find a different attorney.

This lawyer received notice that I sent information to his office via certified mail. WILL NOT pick up certified mail. That's a total red flag to refuse to pick up mail and actually pretty shady.

Response from owner

Please do not send certified mail to my office without prior notice. Sorry we could not be of service. I enjoyed meeting you and Patrick.

John is very knowledgeable about the entire process and really breaks it down in ways you can understand it. Communication was easy between John and us and we felt he was able to make time to answer our questions and concerns. We really appreciate his time and expertise.
