Being an immigration lawyer isn't for everyone. There aren't many lawyers who have the passion for helping the immigrant community that Norma does. Besides having over 25 years of experience, she has the warrior spirit to fight against the injustices we see every day. I know it's easy to point fingers about how things went at the fair because we didn't agree with how certain things were done, but that doesn't mean she isn't professional or good at what she does. She's human, and not everything is perfect; if it were, we'd all be lawyers. But when we are patient, respectful, honest, and collaborate so that our case has a chance of being fought, this lawyer dedicates more time than others to fighting for it! I'm proud to know that a woman who knows exactly what it's like to be an immigrant and witness injustice has the courage to resist and fight for our immigrant brothers and sisters, both inside and outside of detention!

In my personal experience with Islas Law Firm in El Paso, TX, the service was unprofessional and very disappointing. From the beginning, communication was poor. As clients, we constantly had to call and follow up because the firm didn't contact us proactively. We gave them advance notice of our interview date so the attorney could attend, and at no point were we informed that she wouldn't be there. Approximately one week before the interview, we were told she would be on vacation. We were also told that they would send us a pre-interview package and that someone would be sent to represent us. We contacted them several times before the appointment to confirm these points, but we never received the package or clear confirmation. On the day of the interview, no one showed up. When we contacted the office that same day, we received no solution or follow-up. We also didn't receive an apology for the lack of representation or for not sending the promised package. After the interview, we tried to contact both the firm and the attorney directly, but we received no response. We were told that the lawyer would contact us, which never happened. This lack of response and solution left us feeling abandoned as clients. Although we were told that our case was “simple” and that we “didn’t need a lawyer,” we hired and paid for the service precisely to have guidance and support during the initial consultation, as unexpected questions or situations can arise. I understand that unforeseen events can occur, but when one pays for a legal service that also represents a considerable expense, one expects compliance, clear communication, and accountability. This is solely my opinion based on what my husband and I experienced as clients.

Ms. Norma Islas is not only an amazing attorney but also an awesome human! The whole staff at Islas Law firm were warm and responsive especially Esther! They helped us when no one was able and I am not sure what we would have done without them.
