J. Walter Moffitt, PC

Truly couldn't have asked for any better outcome for our son. I had very limited interaction with Mr. Moffitt until the day of court and everything he had told my wife and son that he was going to try for he accomplished and better. I first called Mr. Poston in Ringgold. He wanted $10,000, said our son would lose his license for a year, and that our son needed to undergo weekly drug tests immediately and attend a DUI class. Poston wanted $10,000 for the same punishment you'd get without a lawyer. That's ridiculous. I liked Mr. Moffitt's approach of the 'heck with Poston's' approach. We are not admitting to anything and will request dashcam and bodycam footage to see what evidence they have and go from there. That's exactly what should be done when dealing with “anything you say can and WILL be used against you.” I truly highly recommend Mr. Moffitt, and if you're reading this, I sincerely thank you for helping our son. I was very worried that his first “life mistake" would follow him forever. Thank you for being honest, not giving my wife and son false hope about the outcome, and giving him that second chance to make better choices, learn from it, and move on without it haunting him forever. ~RD

Mr. Moffitt handled my son’s case. He did a wonderful job, he gave us expert advice before the trial that helped him get the best possible outcome in his case. I called him several times before trial and he reassured me each time that he had it handled. He was right! We appreaicate his expertise so much! Thank you Mr. Moffitt!

Complete jerk. Request a consultation and didn't go further. Asked limited questions before deciding what he could do for me. Laughed at me on the phone. Don't give this guy your money. Find another attorney that can achieve the results without being a jerk. Pay anybody else.

Walt is absolutely wonderful! He helped my friend in a case that he was facing many many years in prison…he got him 6 months in boot camp instead. Not to mention he was available during a holiday, when no other attorneys were available for clients! I highly recommend!

Working with Walt was the worst experience I have ever had. He was hired to settle a divorce. He was unprepared for every meeting and not one lasted more than 10 minutes. In every meeting he made me feel like I was unimportant and not worth the time. After 2 years of having to follow up and constantly ask what was being done I was forced to change lawyers which cost me double. I do not recommend using Walt.

My case took almost five years to complete. Walt was always just a phone call away. He got the best outcome I could have hoped for. His experience and diligence were the best. In the beginning, a friend told me he was a "bulldog". He was right. I highly recommend Walt Moffitt!!

Absolutely Avoid J. Walter Moffit – A Warning to Anyone Seeking Legal Counsel I am writing this review with immense frustration and a strong warning to anyone considering retaining J. Walter Moffit as their attorney. My daughter recently sought his services for what she explicitly requested to be an uncontested divorce, and our experience has been nothing short of a nightmare. Mr. Moffit demanded a $2500 retainer fee, which he has effectively stolen from my daughter. Despite her clear instructions for an uncontested divorce, he proceeded to draft papers for a contested divorce, a move that was entirely against her wishes and, in our view, a blatant attempt to inflate fees. He did next to nothing of actual value beyond drafting one document that she did agree to. When we went to his office to question this egregious behavior and ask for the retainer back, we were met with outright refusal. We were told point-blank that we would not be receiving any money back, even though he had barely performed any work. The situation escalated when he hung up on both my daughter and me when we respectfully asked for her money back. He then had the audacity to tell me directly that "we couldn't do anything and he was keeping our money." This man's conduct is appalling. He verbally abused my daughter, telling her "she was the problem" for not wanting to file contested. He then bizarrely accused her family (us!) of trying to influence her and told her not to listen to us. Most shockingly, he had the gall to tell her that it was "all her fault that she doesn't have any money for her son!" and that she was "listening to people that don't care about her" if we were hindering his process of extracting more money. There is not a single person we've spoken to who has anything positive to say about J. Walter Moffit. We were advised by multiple sources to "run as far away from him as we could," advice we tragically learned the hard way. As I write this, we are currently on hold with the Board of Bar Overseers (BBO) to file a formal complaint and are in the process of retaining a new attorney to fight to get my daughter's money back. Please, for your own sake, do not go to this man. I sincerely hope that no one else ever has to experience his greed and unprofessionalism. I will continue to post this review on every forum and platform I can find until my daughter gets the justice she deserves.

I have nothing but kind things to say. I recently used Mr. Moffitt as my attorney for my divorce. He was wonderful to work with. His paralegal, Robin, was such a huge help to me. She communicated with me through every step. I felt like everything was being taken care of and I didn’t have to do anything. I will be using them in the future if needed.

Mr. Walter Moffitt is of less quality than a public defender, did not give attention to detail to my son's (his client) legal paperwork, did not ensure the correct paperwork for my son was delivered to the jail for his release, did not take accountability for the mistakes on the paperwork, but instead blamed the DA's office. Even a good public defender would know to check his client's legal paperwork to make sure it's done right. He has been rude to me, my son and my son's boss, who was authorized to talk to him. He behaved in a condescending and superior-to-all manner. He spoke to me (over the phone) in a verbally abusive manner, yelling at me, berating me and demanding I acknowledge that I understand what he was telling me. In my opinion, this man is a disgusting person. He was going to fight for my son to get six months of a work camp of some sort. The Judge released my son back to probation supervision because he was impressed with the fact that he turned himself in for his first probation violation. What an joke of an attorney, in my experience! You're better off to call McCracken King Poston, Jr. He'll be much more likely to get your legal needs squared away, and he'll do it without berating you and yelling at you.

DO NOT HIRE THIS GUY!!! He's a joke! Goes months and months without speaking to his clients. Then has no idea who you are or what your case is about. Has to be reminded of everything. He has no interest in helping his clients. He only wants the initial retainer fee. I see the good reviews he has and it blows my mind. The only thing I can figure is that he only is a good attorney for women. When a man hires him, he doesn't care. Maybe that's why his wife left him! He's a disgusting excuse for an attorney! Don't pay him a dime!!!

He called me back that alone deserves 5 stars but he gave me good advice as well. Will be using him again!!!

Still in the process of dealing with custody. Can’t ever get him on the phone and if we do he is short with us and rude. The 2 times we have been to court he knew nothing that was going on. We have so much evidence and he won’t even meet us in person to look at it. Hunter is the paralegal and does nothing but lie to us and blames it all on Walt. We can’t even get them to schedule a court hearing.

DO NOT HIRE!! RUN!!! WORST lawyer I've ever wasted my hard earned money on. I paid this man thousands of dollars up front to represent me in an emergency situation involving the welfare of my minor child. He drag around months before he finally even filed anything. He was unable to reach most of the time. When I did get to meet with him he was disturbingly rude. He was completely incompetent throughout the entire process. He straight lied to my face during the last court hearing. I ended up winning my case but I give zero credit to him. If he had filed the correct paperwork the very first time we went to court like he was suppose to it, I would have won right then. Instead, he kept filing wrong motions, leaving important details out, dragging it out 1 1/2 years. He caused my child direct physical & mental harm by his incompetence. She's scarred for life because of him. & I paid him to do it.. SMH. It makes me sick everytime I think of it.
