I had a wonderful experience with Jim during a terrible child custody battle I went through with my ex. Jim was very professional, listened to what I had to say, and was very realistic with what he though we would accomplish in trial. His paralegal, Melody, is also very great to work with. She was available for all of my questions at any time of the day. I couldn’t have been taken care of better. Highly recommend Jim and Melody for a difficult child custody case.

Hoppe took a $1,000 retainer and subsequently didn’t do any work whatsoever for a case that would have been easy. Both parties were in agreement on all terms and we just needed the courts to make it official. But he did nothing but take my money. (I have the receipt still) When I asked if I was able to even get half that mony back he laughed and responded “that’s not how this works.” Despite not providing me with any real services. I felt scammed and taken advantage of in a vulnerable moment. That was money I didn’t have at the time. I am aware that some people may have had a good experience with him but my guess is those people were much more financially well off than I was. Either that or he was too embarrassed to admit he made a mistake and instead of making things right he doubled down and in a sense stole money from a young single mother. I hope that if he’s reading this he knows he still has a chance to make things right with me by returning even SOME of that money. But I doubt he ever will.
You came here for a divorce. We filed the complaint, prepared the voluntary appearance obtained your husband's signature started a property settlement and a parenting plan. We sent you numerous emails requesting information to which you did not respond and you case was dismissed for want of prosecution. Why am I responsible for that? The documents are still here for you and if you want to refile on your own or have someone else finish the case I have no problem with that. For you to say that no services were provided is false. You were in no way "scammed" or taken advantage of. What mistake was made? How did I steal your money?

James Hoppe screwed my custody case by completely missing the court date, and filing the appeal on the case to late. He then tried to blame me and refused to give me a full refund on my retainer fee. All around a terrible experience and I would not recommend him to anyone.
No court date was missed, the calendar entry was half hour off causing us to appear 20 minutes late and you know it. That the judge would default because of that is ridiculous, unjust and unheard of. No one blamed you for anything, that’s just false.

You continued to violate the judge's order over and over and that’s my fault? Did I tell you not to do that? I did, more than once but you failed to listen and chose to do whatever you wanted, that i not the way it works.

This guy is a scam. Lazy. Doesn’t pay attention to detail. Do not use this guy especially if you have a good case. Doesn’t use critical evidence in important cases. U did represent someone close to me. U did exactly what the other people are talking about on here. You take their money. Did little work. And lost a case that now causes more complications for my family and puts small children in harms way. U can justify your actions all u want but I know the truth of the situation. U did bare minimum. U didn’t even have any affidavit for your client when there were lies and allegations against them. U went to court ill prepared. U lost an important case to a very large family. U took the high retainer and toss it to the side as if it had little importance. Your secretary was lazy. She didn’t even want to print and prepare evidence that is clearly her job. You’re disgrace. It is lawyer’s like you that make the judicial system look bad. The case you had was a good case. If u presented the evidence. U just let it play out however it could. You are a scam. You have other reviews on here describing the same thing u did to them. Your client found you because of your false reviews. Well I am leaving this review to anyone that wants to know the truth and can be saved the hassle. Don’t use this guy. Trust me!
The scam is that I have never met let alone represented you in anything. You are talking about your brother. I put into the affidavit exactly the information your brother provided me, in a temporary custody hearing, no case "was lost" it is still pending. Your brother is not at all upset. He has joint custody on a temporary order, the most common form of custody in today's world in front of this judge. I could talk about your criminal convictions of which you have a long list, and about your own problems with children in the court system, what is up with that? Your brother is not upset he is my client not you. You have no idea what you are talking about, you were not present for any of it. Should you at any time like to see the affidavit submitted on his behalf feel free to call or send me an email I would be happy to share it with you if your brother gives permission. In my view it very well done in accordance with the highest standards in this community and is persuasive on behalf of your brother. Judges however make their own decisions. Anyone with common sense is aware of that.
I retained Jim to represent me in a case involving my dog and the outcome couldn’t of been better. Jim done a great job. Just today I called Jim’s office about another matter and Jim talked to me for close to 20 min and gave me great advice over the phone. Great attourney. Highly recommended!

John you signed an agreement to allow the mother to remove the child to Norfolk without any coercion from me, Why ? The answer is that you blame others for your problems and refuse to take responsibility for your own conduct. Try it sometime.

Never got a call back
It is impossible to return every phone call when I have multiple court appearances, trials, emails and phone calls etc. I try but sometime it is impossible.
