The Hubbard Law Firm began our engagement with enthusiasm, but the follow-through on our collection efforts was extremely disappointing. I received inconsistent information, was told that certain people “no longer worked with the firm,” and my calls went unanswered while messages were never returned. Even after emailing Jason Hubbard directly, I received no call back—and to this day, I have never spoken with him. Meanwhile, he collected his portion of the funds to his satisfaction yet we were never informed that our case was closed and the balance of our collection waived without our consent! Whether our agreement allowed for this or not, the lack of communication left us feeling short-changed and completely sidelined as we were left in the dark! If you want professionals who remain professional throughout the entire process, choose wisely. All we expected was clear, honest communication and a firm that answers or returns calls in a timely, professional manner. That did not happen here. They may be responsive in the beginning, but don’t be surprised if you’re met with silence and disappointment by the end. Choose your collection and law firm carefully. I’m posting this to help others understand what they may be dealing with before starting the process of collecting your hard earned money!
Alan,<br><br>You hired our firm on a written contingent-fee retainer for a collection case after a tenant caused damage to your rental property. From the start, the agreement explained that (1) there is no guarantee that any money will be collected, and (2) the debt is assigned to the firm so that we can negotiate, compromise, and settle in our professional judgment, consistent with your interests.<br><br>In your case, a family member of the debtor ultimately came forward with a lump-sum payment on the condition that the entire debt be considered satisfied. That payment resulted in collection of the vast majority of the judgment amount, over 94% to be precise. If the debtor had filed bankruptcy, you would have recovered nothing.<br><br>Specifically, in your case, we obtained judgment in the amount of $13,515.00 and we were able to successfully collect $12,823.67 for you. That is over a 94% recovery. You received 60% of the amount collected as per the retainer agreement you read and signed. Our commission is 40%. <br><br>Our fees and the closing of the file were handled exactly as your signed retainer provides. You received itemized statements showing the filing fee, service costs, and payments, and our accounting reflects that you were paid your share. We did not “waive” your recovery for our own benefit or keep any funds that belonged to you.<br><br>This is not the first time we have explained this to you. I highly recommend Jason and his team. I went to Jason after receiving a letter from another attorney threatening to sue me unless I paid his client $15,000. I contacted Jason and gave him the facts. Jason wrote a letter to the other attorney and his client. I never heard from the other attorney again.
