My name is Shannon Smith Buchko, I went to Jerry Alford simply bc he was close by and my daddy has worked with him before over land deeds and some other similar things. I also thought that being a local all my life couldn't hurt. What I needed was a lawyer to just go to court and speak for me so I wouldn't mess all I had accomplished up. I am not a lawyer and I do not speak the language of court. I only seem to make things worse or misunderstood when I do so. I did not want to chance it since I was fighting for custody of my 2 daughters. So when I went to him I (like an idiot) told him how much money I had and ask if he could/would help me? He said yes and so I hired him. As time is drawing near to court date l find myself doing all the work such as getting/ gathering all past court papers and finding what he needs, having to go and get cds of transcripts as well and going through them. I wasn't to upset with it bc I wanted it done right and I was familiar. The court date arrived and he showed up as promised and brought past records and had obviously went over them along with my notes. I did get full custody of both of my daughters and since I won it seemed that it's a given the winning attorney draws up the order for the judge to sign. On DEC 07 I received a paper stating that I was awarded full custody but before my birthday on DEC 13 I received another stating it was amended due to the findings of the fact (meaning why I got full custody) was left out. when I got the paper and found out what finding of the fact meant and that it was supposed to be in the papers Mr. Alford was to turn in to the court I went to him and showed him what I had gotten and ask him to please put the findings of the fact in the order he stated he would need 1800$ to do so. I did not have 1800$ I gave him ALL I had and he knew it. I could not believe what I was hearing. Needless to say I could have burnt my money in the back yard and gotten more out of it. The order was later overturned bc I had no lawyer and no money. Mr Alford wouldn't even work with me on a payment plan when I came back later once I figured out I couldn't do it. So before you hire Jerry Alford from Alum Creek to help you out in your time of need ask yourself just how important that need to you is bc if it's important to you then trust someone who has been there and keep looking. Hope this helps someone so they'll never be where I was or feel the helplessness I felt and what it cost me and I'm not talking about money. God bless
