Although the circumstances that brought me to JMD were unexpected and extremely painful, working with Sarah Brady and John Paul Tsahakis helped to make a difficult situation a lot easier for me. John Paul was always straightforward and transparent about his process. He did everything that he said that he would do and then some. He handled my case with extreme compassion and professionalism. During mediation, I was singularly focused on child custody and Sarah was very understanding and sensitive to this. Not only did she advocate for the custody outcomes that we wanted, but also made sure to advocate for other areas that were completely unimportant to me at the time (but I have since grown extremely grateful to her for securing!) If it were not for her thorough and detailed guidance, I would be in a far worse situation today! To say that both Sarah and John Paul went above and beyond their duties as lawyers is an understatement. I always felt like they had my best interests in mind and that their level of experience and expertise was unparalleled. There is no one else that I would want advocating for me or my children. Disappointing Experience – Would Not Recommend Working with John Paul and his team at JMD Law was, unfortunately, one of the most disheartening experiences I’ve ever had. I hired them with the sole purpose of establishing a child custody and child support agreement after separating from my ex, but after six months and over $12,000 spent in legal fees, I was left with absolutely nothing to show for it. At the initial consultation, I felt confident and reassured. John Paul seemed compassionate, understanding, and committed to helping me. I was emotional during our first meeting, feeling like I had found someone who truly had my back. That sense of trust led me to go ahead and pay their substantial retainer upfront and continue to trust them throughout the engagement. Sadly, that trust was completely misplaced. Throughout the process, I felt nickel-and-dimed for every single minute of their time, including actions I didn’t authorize or approve in advance. Despite being upfront about my limited budget and financial struggles, they continued billing for unnecessary items without clear communication. I was clear this was my first time working with lawyers, and rather than guiding or supporting me, I feel like I was completely taken advantage of. It’s now over a year since I first hired them, and I’m still without a custody agreement or child support agreement—the only two things I hired them to accomplish. Oh also, it is important to note that my case was not at all complicated: my ex and I were never married, shared no assets, and didn’t have any legal entanglements that would justify such an exorbitant bill or prolonged delays. After working with John Paul and his team, I walked away in an even worse position than when I hired them. It was devastating to feel like I had wasted so much money and time with a team that didn’t have my best interests in mind. I am usually not one to spend time leaving "negative" reviews like this. However, I'm doing it because it's the right thing to do. If this helps even just one person protect themselves from what I went through, it would be worth it.

John Paul Tsahakis is the best lawyer in Charlotte. My marriage fell apart, my business was falling apart, my life was falling apart, and I was in a pretty bad place emotionally / financially. John Paul and his team were the only people I felt were on my side through the hardest transition of my life and gave me a voice when I felt like I didn't have one anymore. I dont think saying he went "above and beyond" would quite capture the experience I had while working with John Paul. I dont think I can ever repay him for standing up for me when I couldn't. You are represented by an attorney that seldomly is involved in your case and finds ways to rack up billable hours that have nothing to do with helping you. During the time I was represented by this firm it was a revolving door of attorneys that didn’t either; seem to know what they were doing or just wanted to you to settle regardless of your request. Getting billed for hours because they fire the attorney and the new one has to get up to speed is very shady business practice. On top of that, they have had cyber attack and leak personal information and their only response is identity protection for a short term. It seems the only subject this firm does in a timely manner is bill you.

A Family Law case is always very difficult to have to deal with, but John Paul and his team of experts assisted with a Custody Modification Case. No one ever dreams they will need this type of support, but if you do, John Paul and his team at JMD are outstanding. I strongly recommend Jon Burns and team from JMD law. Jon significantly improved my child custody situation despite an incredibly biased judge assigned to our case. Don't be dissuaded by this firm's high hourly rate - you will get more results out of this firm than you will "cheaper", less effective firms that will just rack up billable hours that do nothing to assist with your case. Jon is the right tool for your custody battle.
