I was riding my bike in the French Quarter at night when I struck an unmarked square cut hole in the street. I flipped over my handlebars, broke my clavicle, and was knocked unconscious. I had four revision surgeries; I actually have a piece of my fibula in my clavicle. Joseph Bruno Jr sued everyone connected to the worksite. Turned out the jobsite records were either nonexistent or a mess. No one wanted to admit they cut the hole or to take responsibility for the job site. Joe Junior stuck to his guns and after a long fight with appeals we reached a fair resolution. Since my incident I have visited the French Quarter multiple times and noticed that work sites have been better protected. At least now they’re using some sort of barriers. I can honestly say because of my unfortunate experience and Joseph Bruno Jr‘s help it looks like contractors have been doing work down there using better practices and methods to secure the sites, making them safer for pedestrians, cars and bicycles.
