Phone number doesn’t work, contact form on website doesn’t work. Need to follow up with you regarding some trust work you did for us but have no idea how to get ahold of you! Will remove rating if we get some direction…
If I had the option of 0 I would have hit it. My probate case is 4 years old and is no farther than when we started. Me Keenan tried to blame it on Covid-19 but the case was started 2 years prior. On my first visit Mr Keenan stated it was cut and dry case since I had a will. The only thing that changed is my brother passed away. I never heard from this attorney unless I contacted him. Then had the nerve to ask for more money. 4 years later and no progress. Reporting to the Michigan Bar. Buyer Beware.
This client engaged our law firm to handle a relatively simple probate matter. Her mother had passed away, leaving her home to the client and client’s brother. The mother had died several years ago and her estate had not been probated. Client was renting the home to tenants, but now wanted to sell it, and clear the title by probating the estate.

Our firm filed all the necessary documents and paid all the court costs. While the case was on-going client’s brother passed away. In order for us to finish the probate case, a probate case needed to be opened for the brother as his estate now owned his interest in the property. We contacted the client and asked her to contact her brother’s wife to let her know she needed to start a probate case for him. We heard nothing from the wife. Then, (after obtaining her address from the client) we sent a letter to the brother’s wife explaining the situation, and received no response. We later learned the wife, too, had passed away leaving their children sole intestate heirs.

We suggested to client she start a quiet title action to clear title when her brother passed away and an estate had not been opened for him. This is a separate case, completely different from the probate action. The case would most likely be filed in a different court, involved additional legal time/costs and was a more complicated case. We really had no choice but to request an additional fee from the client. She hesitated to pay. In the meantime, her brother’s wife died, adding an additional complication to the case. We again requested the same fee for the same quiet title legal action (her brother’s and wife’s children now have an interest in the property) and the client still has not paid or consented to us filing what needs to be done. This again is an action to quiet title such that the matter can be concluded.

Although, we are saddened the client was dissatisfied with our legal representation, the passing of her brother and his wife created legal complications far beyond the initial probate representation. The client refused to pay the reasonable and necessary legal fees /costs to conclude he matter.
DISCLAIMER: I am NOT a client of this firm, but called late in the day to inquire about multiple legal services, including estate planning. I was rushed off the phone by an extremely dismissive (one might say arrogant) attorney before I could begin to describe my needs. It would have behooved them to have not answered the phone, if they were not prepared to provide professional service at the time. I cannot comment on the quality of their legal services, as I was immediately directed to the Detroit Bar Association before I could share any context around the reasons for my call. Nonetheless, I’m extremely dismayed by the lack of quality client service I received as a prospect. My phone call was treated as an inconvenience.
Had John keenan do a lisence restoration for me and he did a great job!!!!
Thank you John; we appreciate your business!
My father passed away almost 4 years ago and Keenan and Austin still have failed to get everything done. He is slow with replying, I practically have to hound him just to get a response from him. I think it’s time for them to retire considering my father had a VERY straight forward trust and will. I wish I could leave -5 stars. I am tired of having to hound him to get things done, going on two weeks now with no response.
We are very sorry that Ms. Rozell is unhappy with the pace of her father’s Trust and Estate administration; which has been completed. It should be noted that Ms. Rozell is not, and never has been, our client. Our client in this matter was the Personal Representative of the Estate, and Trustee of the Trust.

Unfortunately, the Will and Trust were not as “straight forward” as Ms. Rozell believes. There were numerous assets from numerous entities to be discovered, obtained, and distributed. Some were more difficult than others to obtain from the entities holding them.

Ms. Rozell was a minor when the administration began, and was not familiar with the process of probating a Will or administering a Trust, and did not know the complications that can occur. This was actually one of the more difficult estates we have had to deal with, and the difficulties we had prying loose assets from mutual funds and former employers were very frustrating for us, as well as the beneficiaries. We did succeed in obtaining all of the assets and distributing them to the beneficiaries, but not as quickly as we would have liked. We sincerely apologize that we were not able to do this as quickly as Ms. Rozell wished as well.
I had a landlords tenant case - they normally don’t take on these cases when it’s the tenant seeking council but they took on mine. I was left with the best possible outcome. Very knowledgeable and persistent with my case! Thank you!
Thanks Gabrielle! It was a pleasure working with you.
My experience with Keenan & Austin was very satisfying. I highly recommend them for trust and will situations. They are kind, compassionate and very knowledgeable in what they do. They put my brother and I at ease during a very difficult time.
Thanks very much Tracy!
My experience with Attorney's service was friendly, timely and knowledgeable . Would definitely use them again.
Thank you Marilyn!
John was very professional and thorough while setting up our trusts. He was very patient and helpful, as he guided us and made the process more understandable. Thank you, John Keenan!!
Thanks Jody! We appreciate your business.
John has been very reliable and very knowledgeable with my case. He makes sure he does the right approach with everybody I have had to deal with. He always has the best interest for my case. I would recommend him highly.
Thanks Vicki! It was our pleasure.
Both of them have been very helpful each time I have done business with their firm. I will use them again when needed.
Thank you Rosemarie! We appreciate you.
Friendly service. Very thorough in compiling Living Trust for mom. Made sure all her concerns were addressed and questions answered. Met several times to cover details and ensure we were satisfied.
Thank you Ron. We try to provide this kind of service to all of our clients.
John is very knowledgeable and was extremely helpful in advising us on our matter. He reviewed all of our documents and detailed what we needed to do to settle our dispute. I would recommend Keenan & Austin to anyone buying real estate or has a real estate related issue.
Thanks very much for your kind words.
I called about a landlord/tenant situation I'm having and was told since I'm the tenant there's nothing they can do because they only deal with landlords..that i would have to find another attorney and hung up on me. How rude can you be? At least refer me to someone that can help me
Hi Beth, I’m sorry if we were abrupt with you. We do only work with landlords, but we certainly do not mean to be rude when letting you know that. It can be difficult to find a private attorney who represents tenants because many tenants cannot afford their fees. Therefore, they are mostly served by legal aid offices. We are in the process of compiling a list of referral attorneys for just such this situation but we, also, have not had much luck in finding private attorneys who take on tenants as clients. Here, however, is a list of some of the local legal aid offices:

Detroit Free Legal Aid Clinic, Inc. 313-833-0058
Legal Aid and Defender Association 313-967-5555
Neighborhood Legal Services Michigan 313-964-1975
The William Booth Legal Aid Clinic 313- 361-6340

Best of luck to you and, again, our sincere apologies.

- John Keenan
Terrible.

John and Jan were awesome to work with. I had a tenant at one of our rental properties who refused to move out even though her lease had expired, and the lease we'd been using from our realtor wasn't the best. John sat down with me and went over everything we needed to do. He personally went to court and got us an eviction quickly. Afterword he provided us with a new lease with better wording so the next time we should have even less trouble. Our company is much better off now that we have Keenan & Austin P.C. in our corner.
