Initially the service and setup of the trust was done very professionally. Due to unforeseen circumstances, we did not fund the trust for a number of years and in the interim relocated to another state post retirement. When we went to fund the trust here recently, they advised us to seek council in Michigan. This was very disappointing. My conclusion is that if you plan to relocate to another state you need to make sure you are not wasting your time and money creating a trust in Illinois. This was certainly not made clear to us when we created the trust initially. As a result, our recent review was only one star. As a result of a call from Zach Hessellbaum the very next day to further educate us and to insure us they would fund the original trust we are changing our rating to a five star review. We appreciate Zach's desire to insure their customers receive the service warranted and to make certain their customers are happy, satisfied customers. This is why we went to Law Elderlaw in the first place. It is appropriate to point out that everyone we spoke to during this process was courteous and professional.

Shelby has been such a great resource to me as I try to navigate so many new areas...trusts, medicaid, nursing homes, etc. And she is always so responsive, professional and kind. One of the best!

All the folks I interfaced with at Law Hesselbaum have been consummate professionals. It was quite the journey but made much easier and less stressful with their coaching from the sideline as I closed up the estate of my friend. I worked very closely with paralegal Kathe whose assistance and wisdom was stellar and who was a delight to work with.

We hired Law Hesselbaum to prepare a Medicaid application for our father in January 2025. He passed the week before we were to put in the application. However, I feel the work we did was exceptionally valuable as it uncovered (for example) short-term health insurance policies we didn't know our parents had taken out that have helped us cover his care, and helped us prepare for his passing and for our mom's financial security. Our lawyer was exceptionally knowledgeable and helpful. Our initial paralegal was not a good fit. She made a number of minor errors on documents and didn't seem to understand our answers to her questions to the point of maddening frustration and making us do more work than was actually required. In stepped Bonnie Stinson, who is a verified angel and 1000% on the ball at all times. She took over managing the back and forth of the case, made sure no balls were ever dropped again, and kept everything on track. Even things that were not in her department she stayed on top of so that we always felt completely taken care of for the rest of the process. It's scary to pay such a large fee to a law firm before you know how things will turn out, but having gone through this, and even though no Medicaid application will be submitted, I feel it was absolutely the right path to follow. And I am very, very grateful that Bonnie was there to help us do this properly, with her skillful, caring approach.

Law Hesselbaum was the perfect firm for helping my wife and I develop a trust. My father often shows me his personal estate planning. It has always felt so complicated and an overwhelmingly daunting task to set one up, so I avoided doing it myself for so long. After our third child, I came to terms that I needed a trust for my family to have piece of mind. I've personally known the partner for a few years now. Zach Hesselbaum is heavily involved with the community and is a great individual. The initial meeting was about an hour and came with some homework. Another hour at home to gather and fill out some documents. Another hour meeting to finalize paperwork. Only three hours to give my family peace of mind that our finances and end of life planning are taken care of... worth it. Some additional notes: Brought the kids along to all meetings, felt like a family environment the whole time. Answered all my questions with a high level of professionalism and compassion, no matter how basic. I learned a lot about the legal and financial benefits a trust can do, the law firms involvement after initial setup / future maintenance, and what my relatives can expect when we are gone.

I was amazed at the number of people of my "team" and how syncronized and efficient everyone was. Never in my life have I been so disrespected by a law firm, after the death of my mother. Employees/lawyers are never in the office and the office staff (Kathe) has no clue on answering any questions about probate or filing estate papers. She then expresses to Mr. Hesselbaum and he uses a strong muscle and also doesn’t help after taking our money with no itemized receipt. Please do not use this firm. No understanding of the grief one holds for a family member. Only wants your money.
