I cannot explain correctly or completely how thankful I am to have had Taren by my side representing me in my divorce. Every step of the long, stressful and emotionally exhausting process, she was there, calm, understanding, supportive, and reminding me to take care of myself. While so much of a marriage is private and deeply personal, sharing it all with Taren so not only she could understand, but use it to build my case to fully reflect who I was as a wife to my ex-husband, I never felt judged or like she didn’t care. The day of our trial, which for over a year I had been dreading, due to the anxiety of being in the same room with my ex-husband, losing my growing self esteem, facing the fact that the life we’d built together for a decade- was over and every single flaw and failure on both sides was about to be aired. Taren alongside her assistant, Taj, kept me grounded. I was reminded to breathe, that just because our marriage failed- I was not a failure, and that no matter what I would walk out divorced and free to start living again. Taren made what I had been so terrified of since the papers were served- the day of my marriage legally ending and my entire imagined future turning to dust, into the day I felt the most seen and supported. Every facet of our life together was exposed and instead of feeling ashamed that I couldn’t make work, I finally understood what she’d had been trying to show me. The marriage wasn’t a good marriage, and ending it was an unburdening. I walked out divorced, truly happy, and thankful to have met someone who saw me better than I could see myself. Taren, if you read this, thank you. As someone who I’m sure wasn’t easy to represent, all factors considered, you advocated for me better than anyone else possibly could. You do not know how much you personally have affected my life, even outside of my divorce. You are who humans should strive to become.
