I recently made the decision right before my hearing to switch to a different attorney. After meeting him and speaking with his very professional and kind staff, I realized that my experience with the initial application could and should have been very different with Attorney Spat - much more proactive and involved. It was a nervewracking decision, and I'm glad I made it. I no longer dread communicating with my attorney and am filled with new hope and confidence. I would encourage anyone going through this for the first time to research what an SSDI lawyer should do for you from the start, and also to consider going to an office that has additional staff that can assist. As Meryl told me over the phone, she doesn't have "a team of monkeys" who can answer her emails. The rest of that phone call is what made me decide to leave, and I wish I could drop the transcript here, but I found it to be extremely bizarre and unprofessional. While I am glad that others have benefitted from her knowledge and experience, I felt compelled to share this in case it helps anyone either feel not alone in their experiences with Meryl or to help someone decide on who to choose for representation during this very difficult and stressful process. Best of luck on all your journeys! Know what you're worth and trust your gut.
Attorney Meryl Anne Spat was the best decision I ever made, for my SSDI attorney. She was very supportive and helped me feel we would prevail one way or another. Five Stars Attorney Spat! Thanks so much.
No nonsense attorney with the experience, knowledge and attitude to win.
I am incredibly grateful to Attorney Meryl Spat for her outstanding work in helping me secure my Social Security Disability benefits. From the very beginning, she showed genuine care and compassion, truly understanding the pain and challenges I’ve endured. She was clear and precise about the documentation and information she needed, which made the process less overwhelming. During the court hearing, Ms. Spat was exceptional—professional, confident, and fully prepared. Her support gave me peace of mind throughout this difficult journey. I highly recommend her to anyone seeking a knowledgeable and compassionate disability attorney. Thank you, Meryl, for changing my life. Juan S
Very pleasant woman and im sure she would have done a great job if giving the chance. Unfortunately due to numerous unresponsive attempts for feedback, clarity and confirmations in the very beginning stages, after about 3 weeks, my anxiety ptsd and depression got the best of me. i took that as a warning of what to expect, and ultimately terminated our contract. The one time that we did speak, Ms Spat was very encouraging, helpful and optimistic. Ms spat being an attorney, and not a psychiatrist , I didn’t fault her for not being familiar with the triggers of someone with complex mental disabilities such as mine. Im sure I missed an opportunity to work with an amazing attorney. I absolutely recommend. God bless
Meryl was very generous with her time and gave me options to help me resolve my problems. Thanks so much
She was great
One of the kindest, most knowledgeble individuals I have had the pleasure of working with. Meryl has helped me with a family member and she was so thorough, fought hard for us and delivered results quickly. I will never forget all she did for my family. Do not hesitate to call her for all your social security needs. She was a godsend and I recommend her to everyone! YES you do need a lawyer and its Meryl. The Malo Family
I am a psychotherapist for a client unfairly cut off from Social Security Disability. Meryl Spat worked with us over several years of hearings with a very difficult judge, to finally, today, get the result of reinstatement of my client's Disability and retroactive benefits for the 5 years since the cut off. Meryl is a tenacious fighter and easy and fun to communicate with. Thank you, Meryl!
Attorney Spat stuck with me through a disability denial, an appeal denial, and then represented me in the telephone hearing. This was almost a 3 year process. She prepared me well for the hearing, and I was approved for disability. I could not have done it without her.
Law Office of Meryl Anne Spat was attentive, informative and a good communicator. She helped me through the process of my case and explained the details to me each step of the way. She makes herself available for discussions and fights hard for her Clients. I would highly recommend her
She is the best lawyer I could ever ask for, make sure to book her with any issues.
Filled out info for a return call/e-mail about a situation I'm going through and had some questions. It's been 2 weeks and I have not had any response whatsoever. I don't recommend bothering with this firm because they obviously don't care Edit to add: If the firm decides it doesn't want to work with a client it is in the firms best interest to at least let the person know. Your response is extremely late, indirect & I was never personally notified that there was no interest. One would think as a lawyer you would have the knowledge of how to run a business. Definitely still feel your firm is lacking and people should definitely go elsewhere.
The firm respectfully recommends that the client consult with other counsel when we decline representation.
I have CPTSD from life-long chronic trauma and treatment resistant depression. I have applied for disability 3 times from 2016-2020 and was denied so my therapist recommended this woman to me. It has been 4 years since I met her and I am traumatized from interacting with her. I think about how psychotic she is and how she belittled me. And then I think of all the other innocent clients she has done this to, how she needs to be STOPPED. She would email me asking to give her a call ASAP to discuss my case and when I called for the first time she berated and belittled me until I cried (this happened more than once.) Just like the other reviews say, she would act nice and put on this voice like Snow White and then she snaps out of nowhere. She would say ‘I HAVE TOO MANY CLIENTS!’ She never remembered who I was - I was doing her work for her. ‘WHY ARE YOU CALLING ME AND WASTING MY TIME? YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR GATHERING ALL YOUR DOCUMENTS.’ She would talk to me and say the most outrageous insults about my character. She actually did some digging to find a reason for me not to be eligible for SSDI. She dug up a defamation letter a doctor wrote at Yale where I had done ECT 3x a week for 5 months. This doctor actually wrote a letter saying I told her I was only there to get ECT because I thought it would win my disability case. Why would anyone do that? ECT is scary and painful and has negative side effects. I had never said that or talked to this doctor and yet Meryl pulled it up and it was all to shame me ‘tsk tsk tsk most people wouldn’t work with you because of this but I’m going to help you so don’t worry. But you have to write a cease and desist letter to that doctor and continued to make me sweat with worry. I went from having my ECT sessions when I was in the psychiatric ward and moved my treatments to Yale outpatient. I have been with my therapist 7 years and she has so many notes on my condition that were sent to this attorney way before the scheduled hearing. She did not prep me for the hearing. I just don’t understand; why would she choose an attorney as a career when she hates people who are disadvantaged? She put me down for being disabled. Does she not want to get paid to win an easy case? It was all set up for me to fail and completely humiliated me. I had no clue how or when to speak, and was scolded by the judge. The attorney was asked questions but I was told to answer everything and the worst part of all - she said her computer wouldn’t turn on and said she didn’t have any of my documents. The judge told her to get them and was annoyed. He warned her about wasting his time again. All of this I tolerated only to be denied. She sent me an email months and months later after I already fired her and wrote if I wanted her to process an appeal I had to pay. She needs to be disbarred, without a doubt.
This individual is not a client of the firm.
She never returned my calls or anything would not recommend
Attorney Meyl Spat worked dillengently on my case after me being denied twice by SSI. Attorney Spat works hard for her clients ,care's deeply about their situations and asks all the right questions.Highly recommended.
