I hired Eric Ridley as my attorney because his website made the bankruptcy process seem simple and straightforward. Unfortunately, my personal experience was very different. A large portion of my debt came from my son’s high school football injury and his seizure disorder, so I was already overwhelmed and going through one of the most stressful periods of my life. Instead of receiving the guidance I desperately needed, most of my case was handled by an out-of-state paralegal, and the process dragged on for over a year. The one time I spoke with Eric directly, he made a comment suggesting I “cut off” my 16-year-old son because his medical bills were too high. As a single mom with no second parent involved, I was devastated. I had no idea how I was supposed to simply stop supporting my child. That conversation left me in tears, and I eventually reported my concerns to the California Bar. Eric agreed to reimburse part of the fee I had paid. In my opinion, bankruptcy representation requires compassion, clear communication, and hands-on guidance—especially for clients dealing with medical-related debt—and I did not feel I received that. Switching attorneys was the best decision I made. I hired Karen Grant, who immediately fixed the issues, communicated professionally, and had my case filed within a month of our first meeting. Eric was very helpful navigating the probate system after the passing of my father. He passed in 2020, at the beginning of the Covid pandemic with no Trust. Between the courts shutting down, then going virtual, the executor of the Will and the beneficiaries being in multiple different states, it was no easy task. Eric was always professional and calm, available to us when we had questions and assuring us that the slow court process was normal, pandemic or not. He has always been quick to respond even when I tend to email after hours or weekends. Eric is a real, down to earth person. No BS, which rates high in my book.

I choose Eric to set up a trust for myself and family based one the first time we spoke. I was looking for an attorney and had spoken to 2 previously before I spoke with Eric. It was early Friday evening when I called him, and we spoke for about an hour. He was answering my questions, and I didn’t feel like he was trying to recruit me as a client. He didn’t tell me to call back Monday or say there would be any fee for our hour conversation. I mentioned the 2 attorneys I spoke with, and he mentioned he knew one and heard of one, and thought that either would be a fine choice if I didn’t go with him. Anyway, our time spent developing the trust went very well. He was patient with me and always responded very quickly to my questions. This was a new process for me. It was very laborious reading everything within the trust ( lot of legalese language involved) but Eric when through everything within me. I have a level of comfort now feeling good about how everything my wife and I own is identified and will be distributed according to our wishes to our children and grandchildren.
