Sorry, this is long, but this is crazy. Something told me to look on here to see if there were any new reviews, because I've been finding out more and more that my case was handled terribly. I had her as my lawyer, and right away, she wanted $1000 to retain her. Okay, fine, I understand that. She got paid the $1000 and then wanted another over $4000 for court appearances, which I maxed out my credit card to pay her and for nothing. Money wasted that I wish I could get back. Every court appearance, she said nothing. She just sat there and let the D.A. keep postponing. It's said to say, but I'm glad I wasn't the only person who was treated unfairly. And I'm glad other people are speaking up. My case began in 2022 and didn't end until 2024. I kept telling her about things that were wrong in my case and for her to question the judge about, which she refused to do. The main question was that there was no signature or a judge's stamp on the search warrant. She claimed to have other cases in front of that judge, so she knows how he is. I asked her why she was letting the D.A. dictate how to handle her client, to which she responded, "Oh, no, I'm not, this is a process, and it takes time." She and her boss told me that I would be out of the case by the next court date. That next date turned into over a year and a half. I was held in a case as a pawn to get my husband to plead guilty to charges that weren't even accurate. And I was falsely charged, and she knew it. My case got moved to the trial court room, and the judge there said I was charged illegally. By the end of 2023, she and her boss were trying to force me to go to trial or plead guilty. Mind you, I had never been arrested before a day in my life. But if I decided to go to trial, guess what, I would have to pay them $20,000. Now this went on for almost a month, them trying to get me to go to trial and pay them $20,000. I kept telling them that I didn't have that kind of money. Finally, she tells me that since I'm not going to trial, she's going to have to remove herself from my case. I told her to do that, then, please do, and we went to court, and she was off my case. I had numerous people, including other attorneys, that I spoke to telling me to get rid of her because she isn't helping me. My new attorney told me that if I had gone to trial, I wouldn't have gotten a jury of my peers. And that the motions that she entered for me were motions for a civil case, not a criminal case. She entered the wrong motions. I tried giving her the benefit of the doubt, only to have her mess things up for me. If she had spoken up from the beginning, I could've been dismissed from the case within a month of it starting, not 2 years later. It's sad how money can make some people cold-hearted.

They tell you what you want to hear and feed you lies till they get payments. Communication was horrible! Trying to get a hold of Shakira is like trying to get a hold of the president. The front desk would always have an excuse on why she can’t get on the phone which is completely unacceptable especially when you been waiting days for her to “ get back to you “. Oh and let’s not forget Shakira doesn’t go to Rikers island to see her clients she only believes in video chats and phone calls with her client that she was hired for. Save your money cuz i promise you would regret it. In 6 months she did absolutely nothing for us and had to be fired. Wouldn’t recommend this law firm to ANYONE.

I hired Shakira to work on my son's criminal case. I explained to her that I had been struggling with our previous attorney. I told her about my dissatisfaction with the previous attorney's lack of communication. She told me this woudn't be a problem with her. In my 1st visit to sign the retainer, I met with John and Shakira who both told me they are the best at what they do. Shakira worked on the case for six months and nothing came from it. The communication was terrible. I had to constantly call and text sometimes several times, with very few replies, if any at all. Don't get me stared about the fact that she doesn't do inperson visit to Rikers Island. She had maybe 4 to 5 virtual visits with my son. The whole time we were never told anything about how many witnesses the prosecution had, wasn't able to negotiate to get him a bail reduction. No motions where filed, and the case never progressed at all. They got paid several thousand's, and all was a waste of time and money. My last draw was when both her and John continuously mentioned to both my son and me that he should take the first offer or take this case to trial. She knew that we were interested in her fighting the case pretrial, and thst upon how the case went, we would decide if we should go to trial. Tell me, would YOU go to trial with an attorney who didn't even tell you which witnesses they had, no motions being filed first, basically, nothing done. Stay away or get ripped off. Maybe she is good for other types of cases, but criminal defense cases, I don't think so.
