My experience with Matthew S. Lott / Lott Law was extremely unprofessional. I was clearly told during our initial consultation that the entire case would cost $5,000. Only after I agreed did the written agreement suddenly limit the work to two court appearances. When I questioned this inconsistency, I was assured that cases like mine “normally only need two hearings,” which was misleading and inaccurate. After payment, communication deteriorated. Emails and calls frequently went unanswered, and I often had to chase the office for basic updates. It also became clear that the attorney was not fully familiar with key facts and prior court orders in my case. This attorney showed a complete lack of accountability and professional responsibility. Despite providing extensive information and documents, critical issues were ignored. I paid substantial legal fees but did not receive competent, attentive, or honest representation. I would strongly caution others before hiring this firm.

This attorney is dishonest and unethical. He represents a third party who forcefully and unlawfully removed two minor children from their biological mother's custody and then ran to the Jackson County Chancery Court to file a Complaint for Emergency Relief - Custody, committed fraud on the court, and never showed any evidence of her allegations. Jackson County did not even have subject-matter jurisdiction because the defendant's residence was in Biloxi, MS, which is in Harrison County when the case was filed. Attorneys take an oath and they are REQUIRED to remain professional and ethical. However, Matt Lott has sat in court and laughed at the defendant when showing clear signs of distress - stuttering and loss of memory (February 7, 2023). He has also shown up to court on numerous occasions and flat out lied in court. Example: the Chancery Court tried to transfer the illegal custody case to Jackson County Youth Court. The Youth Court doesnt legally have jurisdiction unless there are substantiated findings of abuse or neglect. So, the Youth Court initiated an investigation on the original allegations through MDCPS. On October 8th, 2025, the Youth Court closed the investigation and provided Defendant with a Findings letter that states that all of the allegations were unsubstantiated. The letter states that MDCPS doesnt recommend Youth Court involvement. Before they wrote the letter they asked if the defnedant wanted to participate with In Circle and the defendant said yes because the family needs the assistance since the family was suddenly and unlawfully ripped apart and as a result of that, they have all suffered severe trauma. MDCPS put in two different recommendations to In Circle. The first one was sent on September 3rd of 2025. The second one was sent sometime in early October, I believe it may have been October 7th or 8th. To this day, November 8, 2025, In Circle has not made any attempt to contact the defendant. After the findings letter was provided from MDCPS there was a Rule 60(b)(4) motion to Vacate Void Order for Lack of Jurisdiction filed and set on the docket. The hearing was held on November 7, 2025. However, Mr. Lott wouldnt allow the proceedings to move forward and he lied to the court in order to stop the proceedings from moving forward. Mr. Lott told Judge Mark Maples that there was an open case in Youth Court, that there were CPS findings in relation to the Chancery case despite the MDCPS Findings letter stating that the allegations were unsubstantiated, stated that the defendant still needed to allow CPS to investigate the home, and stated that the defendant still needed to submit to a drug screen. There is no Youth Court case open against the defendant, defendant has fully complied with the MDCPS investigation, allowed the MDCPS case worker to come into the home and then happily and willingly submitted to and passed a drug screen at MDCPS's request. The GAL even presented the Court with a copy of the MDCPS Findings letter and requested to have it marked as an Exhibit. However, Matt Lott decided to stand in court and lie through his slimy teeth and caused the judge to refuse to hear the motion. I understand defending your client but it is downright unethical, unprofessional, and unlawful for an attorney to show up and lie in open court in order to intentionally cause confusion so that he can prolong a case that should have never existed in the first place that has already been prolonged for three years because he uses unethical and unlawful tactics like this. This slimy "family law attorney" does not uphold his oath and he clearly seeks to destroy innocent families as long as he can benefit from it.
