DO NOT HIRE THIS GUY. Joseph Payne sounded super nice and experienced when we did the initial call and even his receptionist sounded seasoned and experienced. He seemed motivated to take on my case. As soon as he got my money, NOTHING. For my pre-trial conference, he told me I'd have to be there and I took off from work to drive up, it was about a 2 hour drive. Literally 30 min before the trial (when I was already there) he told me I didn't have to be there. I would call and text his office and I wouldn't hear back for weeks if at all. I called to tell them I'd be moving and that it would be hard to make any in person trials. They eventually called me back after leaving multiple messages over the course of a month and acknowledged this information. This guy called me the DAY BEFORE to tell me there was a trial and that I have to be there, knowing I'm across the ocean. He didn't even know what I was being charged with when I had this last conversation with him. This was 10 months deep with him being my lawyer, btw. He was also trying to convince me to plead guilty. He said either I plead or I will have to pay him $4000 to do the 2 day trial. I was asking him for 6 months to try and get some kind of deal/offer. Obviously, he didn't do that either. I calmly expressed my frustrations that I was experiencing with him and then he started getting real defensive and told me he'd quit and that I owed him money (which I don't, I paid all the fees at once in the beginning). This was no longer a calm conversation and resulted in him removing himself from my case. He said he put in a continuance, but when I just spoke with someone who was looking at my file, it says that it was filed that "REFUSED TO SHOW". I now have a warrant for my arrest. This guy only cares about the money and it shows. Do not waste a penny on this man.

I just met MR.PAYNE today for the first time and I found him to be highly professional and one of the nicest attorneys that I have ever met and I have no doubt he represents his clients the best he can and he has my respect rather he wins or loses my case

I had an appointment with Joe & went that day to find a note on the door saying closed for training??? A phone call at least would've been respectful & nice
