Did closing with purchasing agent through Shoemaker at 9:00 am. The experience was negative from the moment of arriving, HE was not there, we waited, secretary arrived 10 min late, she placed us in a conference room, alone, he was late 20 minutes. He rushed us through the entire closing - us having to ask exactly in detail what we were signing. Then, he announced he had no check for the sale that we would have to come back tomorrow or at best later that afternoon. Coming from 75 miles away, we chose to wait. His reply was it would probably be after 2:00 pm. Leaving confused and slighted, we went around the block to give this some prayer, we decided to trust the decision through our reflection and went to shop! At 11:20, we headed back, cautiously approaching Shoemaker with our confusing thoughts & feelings and asking if the check was ready. The secretary's (attorney was not there) reply to our request was absolutely I have just finished it here it is. She handed the check to us and off to the bank we went. On our ride home, we thought we would check at their county court with the clerks office to inquire when our title was reported as good and cleared for the approval for our closing. It had been 2 business days before. Tax time has rolled around, and in the preparation, our CPA explains that we by law must receive an IRS & VA state form (similar to ? if not a 1099) showing the (required by law) form attorney office tax withheld, which was 40% of sale. We called, and the new secretary agreed to look it up and found the original sale contract, and emailed it directly. Our CPA office was extremely conflicted without the form that Shoemaker had not supplied. We insisted in convincing her to file with the form supplied original contract as it was all we received. My exhausted review here concludes with Using caution, if you must deal with this attorney, he is not interested in those whom he makes his living off of. Only his interests, and of course his golf game appointment. We witnessed as we pulled away that morning, him running out to his car, placing golf clubs in the trunk, and him racing away. The handling of this sale was absolutely terrible. I would not get near this attorney, Shoemaker Law. Advise: YOU NEVER LEAVE A CLOSING WITHOUT A CHECK IF YOU HAVE SIGNED THAT YOU RECEIVED IT. I will never deal with this man again, and whenever asked about him, I will state, " stay away from him and his firm". Multiple typos in emails that delayed wiring information of closing funds. Buyers and financiers never received emails with specific amounts due. Only email received had to be forwarded from realtor to buyers

Great staff, and sound legal services

We closed on our new home on 5/28/21. We arrived promptly at our appointed time. Mr. Shoemaker rushed us through the closing and he is void of people skills. He appeared bothered when we asked a question. He basically just pointed to where we needed to sign. We were asked for our e-mail so that documents could be e-mailed to us, rather than have printed copies. When I called to ask for printed copies, the receptionist stated, "That costs a lot of money." My response to her was, "We paid a lot of money to close." She agreed with me and ended up printing the documents. As we are new to the area, we will be looking for a local attorney, capable of handling our estate planning. Because of Mr. Shoemaker's attitude we would not ever consider using his service. Apparently, Mr. Shoemaker was not just having a bad day. My son and daughter in law had a similar experience in February. Our experience with April DeShano of Embrace Home Loans was excellent, but having Mr. Shoemaker handle closing really was unfortunate.

Excellent customer service from the staff. I didn't get to meet Mr. Shoemaker but his colleagues did an amazing job with my closing and addressing my questions and concerns.

I found Shoemaker Law through my company's MetLife Legal Plan benefit program. I reached out to them based off of the positive reviews to have multiple legal documents made. My wife and I were in a bit of a time crunch but I found Mr. Shoemaker and his staff very professional, friendly and accommodating. Despite our time constraint all of our documents were done exactly as instructed and completed in a timely manner. I would absolutely not hesitate to do business with Mr. Shoemaker again and have even referred other friends to them that have echoed a similar experience to mine.

I connected with Jason Shoemaker through my company's MetLaw benefit. My wife and I wanted to get advance medical directives, durable power of attorneys, and wills set up. We had an initial consultation with Mr. Shoemaker back at the end of May. He was provided with all the information he requested during that consultation by June 5th. After not hearing anything from him for a week and a half, I reached out regarding the drafts he promised. He asked if we were able to come in the office and sign documents on the 23rd or 24th. This was roughly a full month after the first consultation. We weren't available until the 10th of July, so an appointment was scheduled for that afternoon. He promised drafts of the documents by the 6th or 7th of July. The afternoon of the 7th, he emailed us, requesting more information. It was clear he had only recently starting working on our documents, despite our initial consultation being 5 weeks prior. Having missed his own deadline for the drafts, we received the drafts of only the advanced medical directives and powers of attorney on the 8th. Corrections needed to be made, and that feedback was promptly provided to him. We received the updated documents and the first draft of our wills on July 9th, the day before our appointment. The wills had errors and there wasn't time to provide markups to him before our appointment the following day. My wife and I decided to sign the only documents that were correct, the medical directives, and move the rest of the work to another attorney based on Mr. Shoemaker's procrastination and errors in the other documents. At the appointment, we told him this. His attitude immediately changed from friendly to hostile. He called us both condescending and difficult. He blamed the fact he took 6 weeks to finish our work on him not having all the information he needed. During these 6 weeks, he did not reach out for information until the last day of the draft window that he missed. In fact, I asked him if he needed anything further from us 3 weeks in and he asked for nothing. He stormed out of the conference room we were in and slammed his office door. I was left to explain to the notary, who was on her way to the conference room after he left, that we no longer needed her services as we were unable to sign even the documents that were correct. Overall, working with Jason Shoemaker showed him as an extremely unprofessional person who has no problem missing deadlines, insulting clients, and throwing tantrums in meetings. We were very disappointed with our experience since he's a part of the MetLaw network and his reviews on Google were overwhelmingly good. We expected better. Based on his attempted blame transference in our last meeting with him, I'm sure he'll dispute this review as he has with other negative reviews, but I can assure you, I wouldn't waste my time chronicling our entire experience for the preceding to be false.
