I really appreciate John’s help a few months back! I think some people forget this is pro bono work - they get paid, but not like private attorneys. They’ve chosen this path to help people who might not otherwise get legal help. They’re doing the best they can while helping a ton of people.

This process is long and unhelpful to anyone needing help with legal issues. You think you are getting legal help but every lawyer you speak to has a different answer to each question asked. They spend more time focusing on what isn’t a reasonable or fair outcome and think they know what the judge will decide without even looking at the evidence given. My case was cut and dry with evidence showing my ex wasn’t following the parenting plan. He even states he no longer wants to see his child and has no intention of ever seeing him (our parenting plan shows we split custody 50/50). I tried to change the plan when he stopped seeing his son but the commissioner denied the change since he hadn’t gone a full year with no contact. It’s been 5 years since he has seen his child so I decided to file for a change again. It took 3 months to get an appt and it came after the administrative hearing my ex requested through DCS for child support. I could have used help with that hearing but they were booked out that far. My appt was set for 12:30 but I waited until almost 2pm to be seen. The lawyer looked like a homeless woman from off the streets with no care in how she presented herself. She failed to make appropriate eye contact, had a scowl on her face at all times and was irritated anytime I asked a question, made a statement or even answered what she asked me. She was annoyed I didn’t know the legal jargon you would know if you went to law school. I had all the court documents completed but left sticky notes on them with questions I had. She asked me to give her the papers and she went through them without saying a word to me. She would read my notes and remove the sticky note to set aside. She made marks on the pages but didn’t tell me what she was doing. When I did ask her questions she spoke to me as if I was in the wrong for wanting a parenting plan that wasn’t violated each week by my ex. She told me the judge would probably order time for my son to spend with his dad because a child should spend time with both parents. I told her my son had spent 4 years in counseling from anxiety and depression from his dad walking out of his life. He just recently accepted his loss and doesn’t blame himself anymore but wants nothing to do with his dad again. Seeing him would cause far more damage than good. But this lawyer wants to tell me the judge will probably order my ex to spend time with his child after all this? The lawyers statements were made to me as if I was trying to get even or punish his dad rather than change the legal paperwork to match what was being done anyway. And there are no penalties for violating the parenting plan all those years because I didn’t file a petition when they were violated. Yet when I did file a petition in the beginning, it was denied because my ex hadn’t violated the parenting plan for a whole year yet. The lawyer kept telling me she understood my situation and it wasn’t fair but this was more than likely what the judge would decide. How could she say that without knowing the whole case? She didn’t even look at my file until I walked into her office that day. And everything I tried to explain to her, she didn’t seem to be listening to anyway. She was just trying to rush through it and avoid dealing with the whole thing. Regardless of how bad this attorney was, I have had similar issues with other attorneys at Tacoma ProBono. They are there to help you fill out papers and thats it. If you ask questions you will get a different answer every time. They won’t go to court with you or represent you in any way. They are just there to state their opinions and act like they know what they are talking about. I haven’t left that office feeling confident about anything I learned from these so called attorneys. I won’t ever go back for legal advice from this place. Save yourself the time and represent yourself or fork out money for a real attorney that knows what they are doing.

The attorney I got did not help me with my eviction what so ever.. she would not let me even submit my evidence to the court and said multiple times that I could fire her and I could represent myself, Felt like she was threatening me not to try to defend myself against lies I have proof that is very clear to prove my landlord were lying. I was not allowed to say anything in court in my defense. She only told me I had court 4 days before the court date . My kids and I are heartbroken over this awful attorney acts. She definitely wasn’t on my side what so ever! We lost our home !!

You went to Tacoma pro bono for help and they referred me to a lawyer that will only represent if we pay $8000 up front. How is that pro Bono? If I could afford 8k up front I wouldn't have contacted Tacoma Pro Bono. No one needs additional stress during times line this

Just got my call back, 3 calls, 2 surveys filed out and 2 months later... To be told they don't have any lawyers licensed to practice in Thurston County.... (gaslight) Ya, sure.... ok. Thanks for letting me know you don't have any lawyers.

I had an appointment with this office back in may but sadly couldn't make due to the fact i had no choice but to move do to a family member which comes down to why i came here for inheritance theft i just recently called twice and was turned down seems to me there here just to work against you and work for the other party by telling you suck it up butter cup which is devastating especially when you're disabled & looking for legal help to get a piece of hope save time unless you have an easy case like jay walking

They don't even represent u at court I don't like these guys at all

Consultation attorney called 48 minutes late, was incredibly rude from the start, and gave inaccurate information that 2 other lawyers discounted. Do not recommend, just pay for a lawyer.

People need to understand that legal aid is a very underfunded and limited resource. This agency receives thousands of requests for service each year and they help as many as they possibly can. They are not government employees, do not get paid as such and truly do this work because they believe legal aid is a human right.

When I first tried calling to make an appointment no one would answer the phone or call me back. After a week I decided to walk in well after showing up at 9 am they told me to come back at 1 pm. I then returned at 1pm to be told that my appointment has to be 3-4 weeks out. So I made it. When I finally returned I was greeted by a attorney that I which in my opinion seemed to be aggressive and not wanting to be there. I felt he didn't have the compassion to help others being (Tacoma probono). He was very argumentative and I didn't feel heard. He would cut me off at beginning sentences. He raised his voice repeatedly to where others outside the room heard him. I felt a lot of intimidation being thrown and brushed off. Didn't receive but little to none on help but more confirming what I already new and done. I just feel if you work probono you should have a drive to want to help others and not make them feel like it's a huge burden of there time. The people that search for this help are human beings treat them with respect.

Doesn't actually do pro bono cases for clients with lawsuits depending on ethnic background.

I really don't know what to say. I went there once, was told to come in. Wasn't able to be seen. Come back maybe a month later with an appointment that I had to confirm over the phone, and they tell me I didn't confirm via text, when there was nothing to confirm in their texts. Waste of gas, they would not see me. Was given an appointment over the phone, and just now was told they had to cancel me. This is ridiculous!!

tacoma probono is the best law firm in the N.W. i have been to court 4 times in the last year, as the defendant , against a slumlord , the attourneys that was assigned to me , where professional and straight to the point , all 4 complaints have been dismissed, and i am confident the 5th one will as well , i would recommend tacomaprobono to all the people that need a high priced attorney and cannot afford one , thank you tacoma probono ,

I thought this place helps low income people. I need help with a garnishment from a local car company that sold me a car that the engine blew 3 weeks after purchasing. After an attorney called me, (which sounded 80 yrs old and confused) he was no help, told me I could file a form that I have no idea about. I explained I had a dv victim history and was very unsympathetic to that. If I had $ I could hire an attorney to represent me. I didn't know they won't represent you and just give you advice to represent yourself. I could have saved time and googled the advice myself. I'm sure this is a non-profit that gets federal $ so they get paid regardless if they actually help people. The court system and probono are both a joke.

These people earn money by sitting and doing nothing. I went there asking for help and I was outside in the cold. I waited for them to open the door. A blonde white woman arrived. She opened the door. She told me to wait outside and call on the intercom. I did and she told me no. He could attend to me and that he would return at 2 pm I had already read that they do this and I did not want to continue wasting my time if you need a lawyer you will have to pay or defend yourself in court if there is a fair judge they do not help anyone if a public entity with respect See this, I hope I put these people to real work and they don't earn money without doing anything. These people make their money sitting around doing nothing I went there asking for help and stood outside in the cold waiting for the door to open a white blonde woman came she opened the door she told me to wait outside and call the intercom I did and she told me she couldn't help me and to come back at 2 pm I had already read that they do this and I didn't want to keep wasting my time if you need a lawyer you will have to pay or defend yourself in court if there is a fair judge they don't help anyone if a public entity with respect sees this I hope they put these people to work and not earn their money without doing anything. Don't waste your time here nobody is going to help you they are incredulous people who don't help anyone

I called with a serious civil rights violation case and they called me today 4/29/2024 to take all of my information and then told me that they have no lawyers to speak with me and that they wont be scheduling me an appointment. These people seem like monsters. The phone was so distorted I couldnt hear most of what she was saying and she had to say everything twice. Run away from these fake volunteers. Seems from their questionnaire like they only help illigal immigrants and not law abiding citizens as it does reference illigals in the form process.
