I hired The Dominguez Firm after being rear-ended in a hit-and-run accident that left me with neck and shoulder injuries—injuries that will ultimately require surgery. At first, everything seemed simple. I had strong evidence: footage of the car fleeing the scene, photos of parts of the other vehicle left at the scene, a police report backing my story, and even a prompt admission of liability for property damage from the other driver’s insurance company. Unfortunately, after that initial consultation (which was quick and easy), things went downhill. I didn’t hear from the firm for months. After countless phone calls, I learned that my case had been reassigned several times—though no one could clearly explain why. The case manager and her supervisor who ended up handling my case only responded when I repeatedly reached out through calls, emails, or texts. All the while, I was dealing with constant pain and could only get temporary relief from a chiropractor who agreed to get paid after settlement. To make matters worse, local police had to pause pursuing a criminal case against the hit-and-run driver because The Dominguez Firm would not disclose evidence and/or how they received it and generally refused to communicate with the detective handling the case. Nearly a year after the accident, the civil case was finally settled—but for the minimum, state-required insurance coverage amount. Considering everything I went through—months of treatment, pain, and delays—the payout felt like a letdown. Once I accepted the settlement, they finally released the evidence to me. It was only then, after police reviewed nearly 80 documents in the file, that we discovered two different people had submitted declarations claiming to be the driver. This further complicated criminal prosecution. The firm is now trying to fix that, but it may be too late because of the statute of limitations. Even after the settlement, the delays continued. It took them three weeks just to assign someone to negotiate the liens for the chiropractic treatment, MRI, and orthopedic consultations—all of which I had to endure to prove the extent of my injuries. I had to keep calling to push things along, and so did my chiropractor. When I finally received the final settlement agreement, I found they had not only deducted their standard 33% fee, but also over $700 in “office expenses”—charges I believe should have been included in their original fee. I was exhausted by this point and just wanted to move on, so I accepted the terms. But even then, I had to drive from Long Beach to their Mid-Wilshire office just to pick up my check—no option for mailing it or sending it electronically. Aside from the initial consultation, my experience with The Dominguez Firm was frustrating from start to finish.
