Marjorie and her staff are not only extremely professional but also very understanding and supportive. I found that unlike other attorneys in her field who want to simply tell you what they know and want you to do, Marjorie truly listened to me and what I wanted. This was the most important thing to me in our dealings. I have recommended Marjorie to several people and will continue to do so with the utmost confidence that she will do a superb job in representing what each person wants. She is a great attorney and comes highly recommended by me.
I highly recommend Marjorie. She is an honest, extremely knowledgeable attorney who truly cares about doing what is best for the clients she represents and is deeply committed to the well-being of every child involved. She is direct and straight forward. Her understanding of the law clearly stands out, and she is always transparent with her fees, providing detailed monthly breakdowns. She consistently comes to court fully prepared and well versed in every aspect of the case. Her office staff is also wonderful. I have worked with Marjorie for many years through high-conflict and stressful post-divorce matters, and she has consistently demonstrated integrity, professionalism, and strong ethics. I always knew my child’s best interests were being fought for, which was the most important thing to me. When I was first searching for representation, other attorneys in Lake County also recommended Marjorie, which speaks volumes. Having experience with other attorneys, I can confidently say her pricing is in line with what other high-quality professionals charge, and she takes great pride in her work. Hiring Marjorie was one of the best decisions I’ve made, and I would not hesitate to reach out to her again or recommend her services to others.
Marjorie is extremely biased and will drain your finances before you even see a day in court. She bills endlessly for phone calls, emails, and miscellaneous updates while doing almost nothing to move your case forward. Meanwhile, your ex-spouse can proceed in court with full representation while you’re left paying for nothing. I have never seen a lawyer cut someone off so quickly during the most difficult and intense parts of a divorce—just because she wasn’t continuing to get her thousands of dollars for no progress. Court dates kept getting scheduled not to move the case forward, but so she could keep sending emails, making calls, and running up the bill while delivering no real results. She constantly pressures you for more money, lectures you, and makes you feel like you’re not doing enough, even though she is the one supposed to be handling everything on your behalf. If you refuse or run out of money, she can even put liens on your home or other assets, making it nearly impossible to hire another lawyer. Marjorie is completely unethical. She sees clients as nothing more than cash to be mined. She has no compassion, no professionalism, and no concern for what happens to you, your children, or your life. Her only priority is making sure she gets paid, no matter the cost to your case, your divorce, or your family. If you value your money, your sanity, and the well-being of your children, stay far away from this lawyer.
I retained Marjorie for representation in an extremely high-conflict, post-decree custody matter. From the outset, her professionalism, thoroughness, and strategic insight were evident. She consistently demonstrated a thoughtful approach, took the time to listen, and responded to every inquiry with clarity and timeliness—never leaving me to feel that my case was unimportant. Marjorie came to every communication and court appearance exceptionally well-prepared. Her depth of experience showed in how she analyzed complex issues, anticipated challenges, and navigated each step of the process with precision. She is also extremely organized, which brought clarity and calm to what was otherwise a daunting and overwhelming experience. Throughout, I always felt supported and effectively advocated for. She brought the experience and guidance I needed during a very difficult time. In working with Marjorie, I can now say I feel my child is safe—and that his needs have been heard. I only wish I had found her sooner.
Marjorie, Thank you for your prompt reply — ironically, it's the fastest we've ever received from you, and unfortunately, it came only after we posted a negative review. It’s a shame that it required public criticism for you to respond with urgency. I'd like to address several points in your response to clarify and provide context: 1. Client Relationship , You stated you did not represent me, yet for over two years we spoke several times — both over the phone and in person — and you accepted payments from me indirectly. That clearly establishes a client relationship. Furthermore, you contacted me on my personal cell phone, which I can prove with a screen shot. My fiancé could not afford your legal fees on her own, as her ex-husband has never contributed a single dollar toward their children’s six years of college expenses. I stepped in financially, and you were well aware of that. To now claim otherwise is deeply misleading. 2. Our Complaint Is Not About the Judge’s Ruling, Let me be clear — our issue is not with the court’s decision, but with your legal representation. We came to you on the advice of a trusted attorney, expecting you would deliver the same quality service you provided to others. Sadly, that was not the case. You consistently failed to protect our interests. The core issue — proving that my fiancé’s ex-husband did not fulfill his financial obligations for college tuition — was not properly addressed by you, despite us providing all necessary documentation. The fact that he had already been jailed for the same issue, and was in default per a previous court order, makes this failure inexcusable. 3. Our Review Is Honest, Not Vengeful This isn’t about vengeance — it’s about accountability. We are warning others not to endure the same emotional and financial toll that we experienced under your representation. A simple case dragged on for over two years and cost us a significant amount of money, with nothing to show for it. 4. Responsibility for the Case Outcome , The judge ruled based on the evidence — or lack thereof — that you presented. You had all the tools and documentation to demonstrate the non-payment of college tuition, and you failed to do so. This was your primary task, and your failure to execute it directly impacted the case. 5. A Stark Contrast to Your Public Image , We’re genuinely perplexed by your abundance of 5-star reviews. In our experience, your demeanor was dismissive and, at times, condescending. Conversations often felt like interrogations. Whether we were treated this way due to prejudice or were simply viewed as a paycheck, the fact remains: your services were profoundly inadequate. You were entrusted with not only a legal case but the well-being and future of two children. That trust was misplaced. You did not serve your clients with the diligence and compassion your profession demands. We are 110% dissatisfied and feel obligated to share our experience to protect others from enduring the same. Our hope is that this serves as a moment of reflection for you. Legal representation is about more than billable hours — it’s about advocacy, integrity, and humanity. I sincerely hope you one day recognize the consequences of your actions on the families you serve. Please save your inaccurate and phony response! Good luck to you!
After a year-long, emotionally draining legal battle, I can confidently say that hiring Marjorie Sher was the best decision I made. As a father living out of state, I faced what seemed like impossible odds in reconnecting with my two children. The case was complex and filled with obstacles, but Marjorie never backed down. She worked tirelessly—often outside of regular hours—to ensure every detail was covered and every filing was timely. What sets Marjorie apart is not just her legal expertise, but her unwavering communication and dedication. She kept me informed at every step, explaining the legal process in clear, compassionate terms, and never left me feeling in the dark. Her ability to build trust and maintain strong professional relationships with judges, opposing counsel, and court personnel was instrumental in achieving a positive outcome. Thanks to her relentless advocacy and deep understanding of family law, I am now reunited with my children. Marjorie not only gave me a legal victory—she gave my family a second chance. I’ll forever be grateful for her hard work, integrity, and heart. If you’re looking for a lawyer who truly cares and delivers results, look no further.
Rodney - Thank you for your kind words. Your unwavering commitment as a parent truly stands out—it's something to admire. I'm genuinely happy for you and your family and all the good that's come your way.
Marjorie professionally and fairly handled my divorce case. She was always well prepared for the court proceedings and provided strong supports. I highly recommend her services.
Thank you so much for your kind words. You were a great client and I was happy to help.
MY HIGHEST RECOMMENATION! Marjorie and her team are the best! If you need a knowledgeable, dedicated, and responsive lawyer who is personally invested in your case, The Law Office of Marjorie Sher is the way to go. As a single dad of two girls, with seemingly insurmountable odds against me, Marjorie fought hard for my family and I've had custody of my daughters since we started working together in July 2018. I joke with her that if I sent out Christmas cards every year, she’d be at the top of the list! Definitely recommend—your search is over with Marjorie and her awesome team!
Joe - Your sweet girls are lucky to have you. Thank you for the kind words!
Marjorie Sher did a great job with my divorce. She is thorough, honest, and responds quickly to any questions. Positive experience given a difficult set of issues.
Darrell - I really appreciate your positive review. It was great to have you as a client.
Marjorie and her staff were extremely knowledgeable and patient with me. Marjorie was able to secure the alimony I needed and only through her expertise about the law. I cannot thank her enough for her professionalism and kindness. Highly recommend. Laurie Stebbins.
Laurie - I greatly appreciate your review. It was a pleasure representing you, and while I hope you never need me again, if you do, I am here for you!
Marjorie is very well organized, straight forward, and knowledgeable. She has helped me a lot over the years, and I can't thank her enough for all she's done for my family. Her staff is kind, well organized, and everyone communicates well there. During a time when I was going through a lot of stress, she helped encourage my self confidence and strength. She has been my attorney for over a decade now and I intend to lean on her expertise as needed in the years to come. Highly recommend.
Kasia - Thank you for this glowing review. You made it easy for me/us by being not only a great client, but a wonderful person as well.
There are lots of divorce attorneys in Lake County, but I went directly to Marjorie without a second thought when I needed legal help. She's focused on client outcomes, she's knowledgeable and creative about solutions to complex issues, and well respected by the legal community and by those in the judiciary. I would recommend her without reservation to anyone who may need legal assistance.
I have had the pleasure of having Marjorie as my attorney since 2016. She has always been professional, efficient, kind, and very honest. She has helped me and my family so much! She is very much appreciated! She is WONDERFUL at her profession!
Carissa - You were a great client! Thank you so much for your positive review. If you need anything in the future, we are just a phone call away.
Disappointment in Marjorie’s services is an understatement for how I feel. The past two years of being represented by her have been an absolute nightmare. We were referred to Marjorie through a mutual friend who had a brief experience with her—one in which her true services were not revealed. I wish I could turn back time to erase this experience and instead choose a qualified, morally guided human being. I hired Marjorie to uphold a previous court ruling from my divorce decree. To make a long story short, what seemed like a straightforward case lasted two years and was heard by four different judges. Additionally, during those two years, she failed to protect my assets related to the case—a simple motion that, I later learned from other attorneys, could have been filed to safeguard them. She never even mentioned this option to me, which I believe was negligent. Over two years, I had only a handful of calls with Marjorie to discuss my case. Every time a call was scheduled, her office would inform me that another retainer was due, as she had already exhausted the previous one with busy work. Imagine how that felt for two years with absolutely no progress. Marjorie approached every conversation as if I were the criminal in the case. She spoke down to me, questioned my information, and offered no helpful strategies for moving forward. I often had to remind her of important details I had already provided to her. There was no sense of care or loyalty. On numerous occasions she would ask me, “What do you want to do?”—which I found baffling since I hired her as my attorney to advise me! So unprofessional. Not only was she unsuccessful in my case, but she also blamed me for not asking her to seek clarity from the judge within 30 days of the ruling on issues I had already explained to her and supported with evidence in my exhibits binder. She had everything she needed to help me be successful, but chose not to. To top it off, in our last phone call—where she again used a rude tone—she told me she didn’t agree with one part of the judge’s ruling that was in my favor (a small benefit, I might add). She literally said she didn’t think I should have received it! I had her repeat herself twice to me because I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. Marjorie, who I paid $40,000 over 2 years and lost my case, was not happy for this small benefit to me. This was a slap in the face to me. Absolutely pitiful behavior. I hope my two-year nightmare doesn’t become someone else’s. If you’re looking for an attorney to stand by your side with loyalty and provide professional guidance, Marjorie is definitely NOT the one. Not only did I lose my case, but I also feel betrayed. It’s an awful feeling I hope others never have to experience.
Thank you for your review. I'm sorry that you were unhappy with the Judge's ruling after trial and what you perceive was my role in that end result, but I appreciate you bringing these issues to my attention. I apologize if you felt that my office requesting that you pay an advance retainer prior to trial put a burden on you in what was an already stressful time. As to your case spanning over two years and having four separate Judges assigned to your case, please know that your situation was an exception with unique issues. Family law cases, by their very nature, are unpredictable. As you can see from my other reviews, I am known for providing exemplary service, caring about my clients and their outcomes and listening to their thoughts about their own case and I am sorry that you feel that you did not receive that service.
⭐ 1 Star We have had an extremely disappointing experience with Marjorie regarding a child support case. From the start, it was clear that her main priority was billing as many hours as possible rather than achieving a resolution. Our case was unnecessarily dragged out for over two years, with little to no progress being made, and communication was frustratingly slow. Marjorie would always call and remind us of an invoice that is being sent instead of focusing on the case and she always made us feel like we were the defendants in our case when it was us who hired her to pursue my fiances ex husband who won’t support his children financially) Instead of advocating for our best interests, I felt like we were just another paycheck. If you’re looking for an attorney who genuinely cares about your case and works efficiently, I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere. PS, We are also in the process of filing a formal complaint against Marjorie with the Illinois ARDC, as we have identified multiple valid reasons to do so as she is totally unethical and does not work in favor of her clients. Unfortunately, this step has become necessary, but we feel it is important to take action to prevent others from experiencing the same issues we did. There are many attorneys that will work to your benefit and Marjorie is NOT one of them!
Romeo -

Thank you for your review, but as you know I did not represent you. I understand that the person who was represented was very unhappy with the ruling the Judge made at the end of the trial. However, the Judge ruled based on the facts, and unfortunately, those facts were not in favor of our side. As to my being unethical, I take great offense at that, as I have never acted in an unethical manner in this case or any other case. I feel that you are taking out your frustration with the Judge and the court system on me. If you note from my other reviews, your opinion is the complete opposite of the other individuals who posted about me. Again, I am sorry you are unhappy with the Judge's ruling and I wish you and your finance well.
Marjorie and her team worked with me on my high conflict divorce. With the help of her knowledge and expertise we managed to settle my divorce with the best results to benefit my child and I, and I know that I can always count on Marjorie Sher and her team if any future issues arise. Continue the great work ladies and a major THANK YOU!
Clients like you make my job easy. Thank you so much for the kind words.
I cannot speak to the gentleman who posted on this review below me however, I obtained this attorney roughly 4 years ago and as a father and as a man she represented me amazingly! I have equal time with my kids….I literally see my kids every other day. She will fight for you regardless if you’re a dad or mom. You obtain her because she’s damn good at what she does and will fight tooth and nail for you. Haven’t ever regretted obtaining her and continue to use her 4 years later when small things pertaining to my divorce arise.
These types of attorneys are why active fathers lose custody and time with their children. My children mom attained this lawyer and from the beginning even with knowing the facts attempted to discredit the type of father I was to my two girls. She had no compassion or best interest for my children. She was attempting to have my time reduced even with knowing for a fact the mom wasn’t telling the truth. In the end Justice prevailed and I got time with my children She’s a waste of money and would have you thinking you can lie and come out on top. Which in my case her client didn’t…….
Mr. Ruff - I did not represent you, but instead the mother of your children. Clearly you were unhappy with the end result of the case, as it was not the outcome that you desired. The Mother of your children was happy with my representation, and I provided exemplary service to her by advocating her position in this case. The Guardian Ad Litem was charged with protecting your children's interests, and she did so with honor and grace and approved the final documents which gave you less time than you wanted. As to your comment that I am a waste of money, I do not know how you would come to that conclusion, as I did not represent you.
In 2012, I first retained Marjorie Sher as the attorney to help me through the divorce process. Over the decade since, I have returned to her law office numerous times to utilize her services for custody, maintenance, and other various issues that came up during that interim. Marjorie was always professional. She always presented my options and gave her spot on recommendations. I always felt like Marjorie had my back. Her office staff has consistently been top-notch. While I continue to feel fortunate that I selected her as my attorney, I also want my review to include how much I appreciated her as a human being. Marjorie is a genuinely kind and compassionate person.
I would highly recommend Marjorie's services to anybody in need of a divorce attorney. She was recommended to me by my friend who used her services. I reached out to her and she represented me for my divorce and was literally the best. She kept me informed of every step along the way whether it was from what she was doing or what my ex's side was doing. She is very professional and gave me the best advice that would help me. When I expressed my situation that I was running low on money from the legal actions and fees, she thought of ways to help me save. She is very concerned about the well being of her clients and again....5 stars. Not one bad thing to say or not ONE complaint.
I appreciate your feedback and kind words. Family Law Cases are difficult, emotionally and financially. I’m glad I made a difficult time in your life a little bit easier.
