0/10 DO NOT RECOMMEND!!! On October 4, 2025, at 7:34 PM, I called attorney Howard K. Ross seeking legal assistance for a serious assault and racial discrimination matter. His website and Google listing had no listed business hours, so I had no guidance on when it was appropriate to call. When he answered, he immediately sounded irritated. After I explained the situation, he yelled at me, told me to apologize for calling “during his time,” said that “stupid people call on weekends,” and called me “dumb.” He repeatedly talked over me and then hung up on me. After I identified myself as a Black woman who had been attacked by a white woman and her dogs, his tone changed — he laughed, expressed disbelief, and became dismissive. I believe his conduct was discriminatory, unprofessional, and unethical. He refused to provide assistance despite collecting my information, and his behavior demonstrated a complete lack of respect, empathy, and professionalism. This is not acceptable behavior for any attorney, especially someone claiming to handle discrimination or assault cases. I would not recommend this lawyer to anyone, particularly anyone from the Black community or anyone seeking fair, compassionate, and professional legal assistance.

My wife and I contacted him about a potential case that we would need help on and he was very very very rude over the phone and told us "why are you calling me? A smart person would think to call me on the weekdays. Why are you contacting at this time of night?" Mind you online there are no certain business hours stating what time his office or he is available or unavailable. We were referred to him by a close friend of ours and that's how he treats potential clients? Absolutely not.

BEST OF THE BEST! I was referred to this Law Firm 18 years ago by my employer at the time when I received my first ever speeding citation. Though my goal isn’t to acquire these citations, lol, but when I do, Howard’s law firm is the only one I’ll call to retain legal counsel. I’ve also used Howard for a car accident settlement, and he was by my side every step of the way and got me the compensation I deserved. I have been nothing but satisfied each occasion that I have reached out. I’m truly honored to not just call Howard my attorney, but my friend. I was referred to Mr. Ross by another attorney I know in Greensboro. I left a message for him to call me. He returned the call within TWO HOURS, he listened patiently and was extremely polite and empathetic. I needed information to see if I immediately needed an attorney and he could have taken advantage of my fear. Instead he was calm reassuring and told me wait until things developed and call him back. I hired Howard to represent me in a traffic case in Durham County. The initial charge was G.S. 20-141(j1), and we were able to enter a plea of responsible to G.S. 20-123.2 (improper equipment) with no required conditions. This is the best possible outcome for a speeding ticket in NC, as it is a non-moving infraction that has no insurance impact, no points, and no per-policy limits or out-of-state issues like a PJC. Howard was able to effectively present my case, clean driving record, and letter to the court to the DA's office to obtain this plea deal. It is essential to have a lawyer who knows the local DAs and is willing to put in the time to continue the case to a date with the most favorable DA/district judge. Howard was able to obtain an improper equipment in my case even though it was outside of the usual guidelines for this county, and without a requirement of traffic school. Despite staffing changes in the DA's office, Howard was able to adapt and get a strong deal even with a brand new DA. Howard appeared around four times in court all for a flat fee that was about equal to the cost of the ticket. It took about five months in total to resolve the case, and I did not have to appear in court at all. Most speeding tickets are going to cost $250-350 in fines/costs. The question is what will happen to your driving record and insurance rates. That is where paying Howard a few hundred dollars is well worth it. Defense lawyers know the DAs and they have a professional rapport with them. I thought about going to court myself, but even though I had a good idea of the laws, I wouldn't have known the people and procedures to expect in this county. Howard knows exactly what to expect and how to best present the case to the DAs. Howard never routes calls or texts to a secretary--some of the lawyers I contacted, and many that sent advertisements in the mail, did not even let you talk to a lawyer before hiring them. Howard gave a lengthy phone consultation at no charge and was in no hurry. Howard will ask to see your citation and driving record before giving a flat fee quote for the case. If available for your case, you'll also have to fill out a waiver of appearance form if you do not want to appear in court each time yourself. I actually found Howard by chance by looking at the bar directory, and he was a bit surprised as he does not do any advertising. If you've come across this listing I would definitely recommend giving him a call. I think it's best to call a few different lawyers as I did, and choose who you feel most comfortable trusting your case with. Cross out anyone who doesn't give a real consultation or pushes you to decide right away. Whatever you decide to do, Howard will give you a consultation and put you at ease regarding your case. As a local college student, Howard provided a service that was affordable to me and well worth the money.

He did a great job for our family. I appreciate him at each his step. Even if sometimes I didn't understand what and why is he doing that, in the end I understood it was for the best result. He has a great personality and personal approach to his clients. Highly recommend him.

Howard K Ross is easily one of the best, kindest, and most helpful attorneys in the Triangle. He has represented me in court before and was invaluable in his ability not just to represent me, but also in his ability to explain everything to me in a way that was simple to understand, and to make the process as quick and easy as possible. Hired Howard though some recommendations for a speeding ticket. Howard was professional and went over my options and explained them thoroughly. Mr. Ross was extremely disrespectful and rude when attempting to stay in contact regarding settlement processing. He actually hung up the phone and would not allow me to speak. Professionalism might be the bare minimum required in this field, and he could not offer even that.
