This is long overdue and I apologize to Mr. DeBenedetto. My Mother Beatriz came to Mr. Debendetto by the guiding light of God because she was very seriously injured after a work accident and her employer was horrible to her, especially Sedgwick insurance. It's shocking she worked in the best hospital in San Diego. Shame on them for treating their employees as disposable commodities. Mr. Debendetto saved her from their employee health physicians who planned on denying the injury and discharging her medically. It took four long years in this broken system, but he and beautiful Theresa Caldwell fought for her to regain her quality of life. Theresa advocated for her injury with an angel named Dr. Pal and they never wavered. I was clear I did not want money, but I wanted to regain mobility to my arm. At four years, finally she had her surgery, with the doctor she wanted, and at the onset of COVID she was recovering at home. It's been five years and they continued to fight for her to recover an injured workers benefit with the help of attorney Harris, his associate. Attorney Harris was able to qualify me for this benefit. They have changed my life altogether. I am retired now and this benefit is such a blessing. She is moving and regained enough quality of life to be independent. She has her aches, but nothing compared to how Sedgwick forced her to live for four long years. The office never gave up on her case and when something wasn't right in the office, Mr.Debenedetto never failed to address it in a fair manner. Had a heat stroke in August 2021 and it completely changed my life for the worst. I don't do write reviews very often, but I just wanted to leave a review for anyone else who has to go through the backwards workers' compensation system and is looking for help navigating this complex and bureaucratic system. With that being said I will go ahead and give some background.I had a pretty severe injury at work that will affect me for the rest of my life. After the injury (while I was off work), trying to get my next surgery, I spent my days trying to keep after the workers' compensation insurance company. When it came time for my next surgery, I couldn't get it approved from the workers compensation insurance. At this point, I was thinking about contacting an attorney to, at the very least, handle all the paperwork and help me navigate the godforsaken system that is California's workers' compensation. My doctor at the time couldn't believe that the workers' compensation insurance company denied my surgery, as they had sent X-rays to the insurance doctor, spoke with them, and even stated there were severe risks if I did not get this surgery. He recommended that I should look for an attorney to get the medical treatment approved and take off the burden of having to deal with the workers' compensation insurance company. Since I was also started to think the same thing I set out to find a workers compensation attorney. After meeting with 7 or 8 attorneys and discussing my case, I felt no one was a good fit. They either came off too soft or were too big of a firm to really give the personal touch my case needed. When I had my consultation with Tom & Don, I knew I found the right place. Don and Tom were both passionate about the work their firm did. Don had the personal touch I was looking for, as the previous firms I had talked where either really big and had so many clients that I felt I was just another client or they were so small that wouldn’t be able to give my case all the attention it needed. Something I had been doing before I got hurt and I wanted to continue on that path as I felt it would be good for my mental health. I was unsure if I would ever be able to go back to work and was scared to get a new job, but Don helped ease those concerns which allowed me to take the new job which paid significantly more and ended up being a great decision. Recently, Tom & Don helped me resolve my case and fought long and hard to get me the best resolution they could. I can tell you that hiring their law firm was the best decision I made throughout this entire ordeal. Without their protection, I would have been chewed up and spit out by the system. The truth of the matter is no one is looking out for you in this system. If you have a good doctor, they will do what they can but, ultimately, their hands are tied when it comes to the workers' compensation system, which is why most of the good doctors won't even take on workers' compensation patients. Get yourself some protection! Get help from people who know the system and can help you navigate through it while maximizing the benefits you can receive. If they don't fit your style, go find another attorney/law firm to represent you.
