Was in need of an excellent criminal attorney for my son. He is a college student in Richmond, VA and got himself into criminal difficulty for the first time. We did not have any first hand experience up close and personal with the criminal justice system so it was very overwhelming all around. Did a lot of research and numerous consultations with lawyers and firms. Initially settled on one and contracted with him based on the reputation of his firm. Was not happy with his lack of communication and inability to reach him directly- always an assistant who at times seemed bothered with our questions and need for updates. Then I found Tom Barbour. He was very accessible- answered our initial call on a Saturday and spoke at length. He was thorough and direct. He was up front that he was not sure he could get the case dismissed but he would try. He took on the case in Richmond as well as a related separate case where we live. Long story short, the separate case has been dismissed, and the Richmond case is pending dismissal upon completion of in progress remediation- expected January 2026. He is also offering a path for expungement. I cannot say enough about Tom. He is professional, knowledgeable and very direct. He was able to broker the agreement for dismissal meeting with both the prosecutor and law enforcement. He was very frank with my son directing him in what to do if he wanted the best outcome for his situation.
