I want to commend Nathaniel J. Kaleefey, Attorney as legal counselor in family law. When my wife of 24 years wanted a separation, the last thing that I wanted to do was get advice from an attorney, yet I am so thankful that I did because from that very first consultation, as difficult as it was to hear, Nathaniel made me realize that I was allowing our children and myself to become unnecessarily hurt by the painful process of what would ultimately become a divorce. Nathaniel did not spare my feelings and he didn’t waste our time with sentimentality, rather he spoke clearly and strongly that, as difficult as it might have been for me, I needed to think about the children. What he said about the children had benefits to me as well, but what stands out the most in that first consultation (which will be forever seared in my brain) is how he spoke about making “first things first”. About a year after that consultation, (having taken the advice he gave me) I was in a good position to endure what unfortunately turned into a scorched earth campaign against me. In developing what would become the judgement of divorce (a legal decree that the judge signs ending the marriage), Nathaniel protected me not only from severe treatment (helping me avoid unnecessary exposure), but also, I came to find out, from significant harm in post-judgement proceedings, which, unhappily, became necessary. Unexpectedly it was necessary to be part of a post-judgement trial and Nathaniel spoke so expertly and so strongly as my advocate that I was actually a little afraid of him as he so persuasively contended with our legal opponents. As he advocated for me in the face of nasty and personal attacks against me, I genuinely felt like I was safe inside a fortified redoubt while my “attackers” withered under his knowledge of the law and his confident verbal offensive. I actually saw opposing counsel stutter to find her bearing from the force of his argument while the judge’s intense scrutiny did nothing to ease her bewilderment. Although Nathaniel had prepared me for the worst and we had the “receipts” of our reasonableness and good-faith, anyone witnessing that trial could not have come away with any other verdict than what the judge rendered. There was simply no answer to it. I am more convinced now than ever that the reason that he was so successful was that Nathaniel had his eyes on the ball, and from our first consultation to the post-judgement trial, literally years later, he never took his eyes off of that ball. One of the things I have so deeply learned from this experience was the value of a solid law firm in general, and a capable legal advocate in particular. Verspoor Waalkes PC had been recommended to me from good friends when it came time to plan the estate of my parents. Their efficacy and kindness in the process confirmed that we had been steered in the right direction. So when it came time to seek legal advice for myself personally, naturally they were the firm that I called. The reason that I want to recommend Nathaniel J. When I worked in the Real Estate Appraisal business, I sought to partner with highly respected and honest clients. Throughout my career, I have seen and heard about those practicing law that I would not recommend. When you come across someone who is responsive, hardworking, knowledgeable, honest and diligent, you want to let others know. From an appraiser standpoint, an attorney who is all of these things will only be a benefit to their client - and Nathaniel is this type of attorney! Unfortunately, the attorneys who aren't honest or diligent will end up costing their clients far more in the end.
