Can be a great lawyer but only if you pay him in full . 12k wasnt enough to make him do anything after retaining him . I could say more things but ill leave it at this . I wouldnt hire this firm to represent my hamster 😂 40k bill for a case that never even made it to court yet . Not being disrespectful just being factual . Shirmer isnt any good either . Thinks he knows it all but I was shown that he has alot to learn about law and how it works . Files motions knowing they wont get anywhere just to bill you for time
Thank you for sharing your feedback, Todd. It’s important to us to understand the experiences of our clients, and we take your input seriously. Fair pricing for the area. Did a great Job communicating and finishing up with a settlement at a reasonable fee. Would highly recommend, if in need of an attourney in the MOV area.
Thank you, Joel, for sharing your experience and recommending our services. We're glad to know you appreciated our communication and found our fees reasonable. Your feedback means a lot to us.

I felt Secretary was rude
For posterity’s sake in case this review gets edited it says “I felt Secretary was rude”

First and foremost - we have zero clue who this person is. This isn’t a client name we’re aware of.

That being said, now, let’s break it down - this is a law firm that handles trench law. We handle family law, we handle criminal law, we handle abuse and neglect cases, wills, deeds, and guess what — we handle REALITY. Reality is, most people don’t like going into the court system if they can avoid it, and honestly do not usually trust other people as far as they can throw them. So, if you want to build a connection or trust with someone, you want someone up front who is not putting on a show or a facade. So, putting it out there here is the policy on this.

We follow the GOLDEN RULE: We treat others how they want to be treated, but importantly we do not sugarcoat for our clients if we can avoid it. That being said - we always try first and foremost to be friendly to and open to our clients while necessarily having to be truthful with them. Think of it like this, you ever call for customer support and they give you the run around with “I’m sorry you feel that way,” or ultimately feel they cannot answer your questions without some long-winded response? We try to avoid that - you have to be able to come to the table and help us to help your case, and sometimes that also means you have to deal with news that may be unpleasant to hear. We will be who you want us to try to be in court, but at the firm we have to be able to have open communication with you to actually ascertain your goals and properly represent you for what your aim of the case(s) are/is.

And just on the topic of this review itself, as of December 2025 we currently have two excellent secretaries: Penny and Isaac, both of whom at the time of this writing have been here for three years and approaching two years, respectively. In all of this time, there is only one instance that we can recall where a customer ever described either of them as rude, and you know what – we 100% back our secretary on this one. Why? Because if you are trying to become absolutely insufferable and intolerable where you start to belittle and be mean, we’re not going to tolerate that. This is a HIGHLY stressful time usually when going through Court, and we get that, but we’re all in this together. The Court staff from Wood, Jackson, Wirt, Ritchie, Calhoun, Roane, Tyler, Wetzel, Washington, Noble, and apologies for not saying the few others all know them and they have an excellent rapport with them. Whenever the attorneys have Court, and get the chance to ask them for a reflection it has always been positive feedback which gives us as the Attorneys a good feeling they are doing exactly what they need to do. We do believe the most important person in a law firm ultimately ends up being the Secretary because they are that central connection between attorney, court, and client as that first line of contact. Thus, while we feel bad you have this opinion, we highly believe it is wholly inaccurate. You just really can’t please everybody, no matter how hard you try.
He calls you back in timely manner. That's odd for most. He also tells you his honest opinion. Hire him.
Thank you, Jeffery, for taking the time to share your experience and for highlighting the importance of honest communication and timely responses. Your feedback is truly appreciated.
My son was arrested for a DUI, during the first consultation, i made my biggest concern about him getting ANY jail time. He said the best way to get them to reduce or dismiss charges is by dragging out the proceedings. He never mentioned or corrected me about the avoiding jail time, it was a mandatory in the state of Ohio. My son ended up with arrest warrants issued because the attorneys office never informed us, and refused to take responsibility. We missed an earlier appointment because we were told one time that we needed to be there and the next time, we didnt. I dont know how many trips (2 hours round trip) that was some form of meeting or court appearance that we did try to be present only to find out that (parents & son) didnt habe to be present, this happened 3 times. But I still got to pay for his service, I should have sent in a complaint to the Barr Association, because he did NOT tell me that the jail time was mandatory and no way to get out of that. He wasted our time and money, and was absolutely no help.
You are the mother of a former client - as such you are not the client and thus have never used our firm's services. That being said, we have documented multiple instances back in 2022 where we asked to meet with your son, which were ignored. As the public record in that case would show, any Capias for your son was pulled. That being said:

Your son did a grand total of 3 days in jail for this charge -- and he was/is an adult who understood the plea and the risks otherwise of taking a case to trial with the discovery we had in this matter.
Thank you, Todd, for taking the time to share your positive experience. Your feedback is greatly appreciated and we’re glad to know you had a great visit.

Edited on August 27, 2025 Fair warning: It has been determined by the WV Office of Disciplinary Counsel that lawyers have broad discretion to exercise independent professional judgement. This determination was via a complaint that alleged overriding legal and ethical instructions, as well as documented fraudulent billing. The fraudulent billing includes fabricated phone calls and inflated billable hours via (unopened) automatic emails from the court, all billed by Mr Summers himself. The firm's position is that "in accordance with the firm's standard engagement letter, he still was obligated to pay for services up to the date of termination." And yet to date, they have declined to pursue that alleged "obligation." And finally, my experience with the firms attitude toward adoptive parents is questionable at best. I would highly recommend staying away from them.
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback and concerns. It’s important to us that clients feel respected and heard in all interactions with our team. We take your comments seriously and are always striving to provide clear and professional service to everyone we work with.
