This office did offer me a cup of coffee after I payed them 500dollars as they listened to my complaint. And my case did receive a review with only reasons why they couldn't help. But it's my review that they are scared to fight for you if your claim is too big. They seemed more interested in meeting their rent by sub leasing their building. Not recommended for 1983 claims

Response from owner

Mr. Taylor:
You are correct in one respect: we reviewed your case extensively and for the reasons we provided to you we declined to undertake your representation. We file 1983 claims when the facts of a particular case deem it advisable. Such cases are always hard fought and the decision whether to file is a difficult one. In your case, however, we stand by our decision to decline your representation.
As for the sub-leasing of the building, you are mistaken: the law firm is not a landlord.
Mel Williams

They listen and ask the right questions. It's like talking to a friend. And not so sterile feeling like some office's. You are made to feel welcome to share your issues and ask for help. I expected the opposite but felt relieved when I left.

Response from owner

Thank you, Mr. Walke.
By the way, good article by Dan Casey in the Roanoke Times!

At Mel Williams PLC we strive to provide quality legal advice to the persons who consult with us. We give honest, forthright opinions about what the law provides in response to a particular factual scenario. At times this means providing advice that is disappointing to the person consulting with us: the law does not provide recourse for every wrong in life.

Mr. Williams is a First Class Gentleman.. Along with the most intelligent and Knowledgeable Attorney in his Field. But dont mistake his politeness..Mel is NO pushover.. I would best describe him as Gritty.. not backing down when He knows that he's Right. Great qualities. Theres no one else I'd want negotiating or fighting for me . Thanks. ADAM KEITH

Great lawyer

If I could give a minus I would. Totally blew our case. What attorney doesnt turn in paperwork to the court with a signed signature of his client which was a basis to throw out the case. Paid him 17 thousand dollars to say he is sorry and he could have done better. Receive numerous court decisions from the judge indicating that he failed to supply the court with the evidence he was clearly provided by his client. why would he file a lawsuit for his client with the court if he did not the evidence to do so. Let that sink in.

Response from owner

Mr. Kincaid:
To my knowledge my office has never represented you.
If you are referring to my firm's representation of your spouse then your characterization of the facts of that case is inaccurate.
That case concluded on appeal to the U.S. Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals over 16 months ago, in April 2017, and my representation of your spouse lasted approximately 4 years, during which time my office expended considerable effort in representation of your wife.
My recollection is that when I last met with you and your spouse (also more than a year ago) that I had to ask you to leave my office.
In any event, your spouse's case did not turn out as we had hoped it would -- the judge ruled that the behavior your wife endured was insufficient to violate the law. Lawsuits inherently are risky ventures, and the law is not always clear on a particular issue -- that's why you have litigation, i.e., to have a court determine the answers to those unclear issues in a particular case. Attorneys make their best educated judgment on whether a particular case will be successful: in this case the judge disagreed with my judgment.
Yes, the risks of litigation involve expenditure of money to litigate the case regardless of the ultimate outcome. Litigation is expensive.
The outcome of this case was disappointing to me as well. My office invested significant time and resources to litigate the case, and we do not wish to expend such resources in a losing venture. In other words, had I thought from the get go that your wife's case had no chance of success I would not have taken it on.
The outcome of matters in litigation is always uncertain, and I am sorry that your wife's case did not turnout differently.
Mel Williams
